Does anyone know anything about the Tiny House movement?

a little... I think my next house.. will be the smallest of all.. just big enough for me to fit inside of it.. yes my casket.. .... there's something about a small box.. that intrigues me....lol.. okay I'm done joking around...lol... I saw a documentary about small houses... it was very interesting.. giving the fact that houses today are getting bigger and bigger and more wasteful....
small and functional seems ideal... ... but building codes.. and government regulation... not really on board..... you need private land.... .. somebody with a 3000 square foot home... does not want a 600 square foot home... beside them... their friends will think it's their kids Playhouse....lol |

I like the idea. I don't want or need a lot of property. I subscribe to the newsletter. I just need to make the last arrangements.

I've seen it on TV but it looks like it only works if you don't own a lot of stuff. Kind of a 180 from your standard American dream.

Easier to heat, easier to cool.
More environmentally friendly than large houses... I wouldn't do it though. Unless I were camping. |

I thought this was probably going to be about living in Britain.....

I've been sort of thrilled with this subject, too. I could absolutely get behind this, 100%. It fits my nature to the 'T.' Minimalism and a small footprint, self-sufficiency, efficiency in general. Environmentally friendly, frugal...there's no end to the appeal. There are even options for these that make them portable, after a fashion. A small plot here, a small plot there and the comfort of 'home' wherever I happen to light for the moment is very appealing. I've only owned one home and hated it. It felt like a prison sentence. This solution would be heavenly.

It's like a turtle with a shell, carrying your house on your back.

It's like a turtle with a shell, carrying your house on your back. One of my favorite songs ever was 'Home in My Hand.' I think Foghat did it, but don't remember. I could've been a turtle in another incarnation, I think. |

I googled it. Didn't find much expect a TV show.
I don't think it will get much more popular, unless there are a lot more people out there that live alone( than I realize) & they intend to live alone forever. I love the minimalist lifestyle idea. But I'm a contradiction... because where the hell would I put my shoes? |

But I'm a contradiction... because where the hell would I put my shoes? This works out, Sassy. Just so happens I've got a shoe fetish. We'll insulate the joint with my books and then decorate the walls with shoes. Practicality and fetishism combined. Voila! |

Now they know how to to mininalize & be efficient with style. Let the negotiations begin. |

Is this where I do the 'happy puppy dance?' (ya can't tell if a turtle's dancing or not)
I'll bet WonderWoman can contribute shelving ideas. Practicality, y'know. Make use of available resources. |

Does anyone know anything about the Tiny House movement?
I'm not sure what you mean. It's a "movement?" Like Al Gore is touring universities in his private jet that's 4 times bigger than any tiny house in order to press the importance of tiny houses and marching on Washington for some sort of tiny house protection agency and anti tiny house discrimination laws? Other than that a "tiny house" seems to just be an apartment you can put on your own land. Lots of people used to live in "tiny houses." They were called 1 room cabins. They were all over the place 150 years ago. My grandparents (in the 1930's) had a 2 bed 1 bath house for themselves and 5 kids and they had a shed (like the same size as you can buy at home depot) they rented out to some poor people. Tiny house "movement." SMH. |

I'm no expert, but you don't have to be. It is about having what you need in as little space as possible. Some people take it to the extreme but I am planning on a 20X20 with a loft. My house I live in now has a lot of unused space in it. And I think it is like that old bit, "does a man get a three car garage for his three cars or does he get three cars for his three car garage?" You accumulate "stuff" because you have a place to put it. Less space = less stuff. Most of the things in your house right now are wholly unnecessary. Also, the idea is to use as little of "grid" utilities as possible. I think solar energy is fascinating but I also believe that is made overly complicated and expensive to keep the general public from utilizing it for their needs.

The whole idea has to do with that people have too much stuff they don't need. Big space is not the American dream. I don't have a lot of stuff, pets or kids. Why do I need a lot of space? It's called simple living and downsizing. It sounds good to me.
