There is probably a lot of truth in that idea.

We say we deserve a nice person who has shown responsibility and sacrifice to get where they are but if we have not done the same it is hard for then to want to compromise their effort and buy into someone who has not equally made the hard choices. My guess is everyone would like to let their hair down and party and live it up as a kid or young adult. I can think of many a day I longed to skip out on a Friday and go to the beach and dance in the moonlight until dawn. Getting stupid drunk and telling someone off can sound like a lot of fun. But when you have not been such and idiot and finally accumulated a few of the perks for using some restraint it is hard to have a lot of interest in affording someone a second chance.

I do believe People do not understand it takes a lot more effort to live on a little than it does to breeze by on a comfortable income. I get that housing is out of site but we can't beg people to come fill out applications for a Habitat House and the concept of Sweat equity makes many of them mad.

The concept of chastity, modesty, or even following common courtesy is rare. Self Respect and investing in one's future seems to be speaking some alien language.
