The Miracle Babies of the Mexico Earthquake
The 8.1-magnitude quake struck Mexico City on Sept. 19, 1985, followed by a 7.5-magnitude aftershock one day later. At least 10,000 people were killed, three times that number injured and 100,000 left homeless. It was the biggest natural disaster in decades, in the most densely populated city in the hemisphere.

"We began receiving victims within hours, nine at first. Over the next eight days or so seven more arrived," says Dina Villanueva, a neo-natologist who headed the team of doctors, nurses and social workers that began caring for them.

It would appear that there have been occasions where the power of the body is stronger then the circumstances that surround it and for those brand new babies fresh from their mommies womb in Mexico are any indication --- humans have a way of surviving unsurmountable odds!

Earthquake survivor Krishna Kumari Khadka, 24, is pulled to safety by rescuers from Japan, Norway, France and Israel after the April 25 earthquake.

Eight days after a devastating earthquake ravaged Nepal, a rescue team made a miraculous discovery.

Officials announced Sunday that three people, including a 105-year-old, were found alive under rubble in their home in rural village Sindhupalchowk.
***********************

Striking how the range of survivors from a 4month baby to a 105yr old manage to be among those that make it --- and all those in-between---what a colossal mess and now the bacteria factor will have to be dealt with!

How is this possible? You can only survive 3 days without water.

good question. i thought the same thing.

It's happening. 2 have been rescued yesterday and are under treatment. May be they drank their own urine. A man rescued after 192 hour told that.hence, same things might happen.

A 7.3 magnitude earthquake killed at least 37 people and spread panic in Nepal on Tuesday, bringing down buildings already weakened by a devastating tremor less than three weeks ago and unleashing landslides in Himalayan valleys near Mount Everest.

Most of the reported fatalities were in villages to the east of Kathmandu, only just beginning to pick up the pieces after the April 25 quake that left more than 8,000 people dead.

WOW --- these poor people; I just can't imagine living with this sort of natural disaster...
Tornadoes/Flooding we get around here and there is a radar/warning system if it doesn't catch you asleep --- but this...OMG!

Prayers for Nepal and the surrounding countries.

Nothing - not even a debris field has been spotted yet! But with those extra tremors and landslides up there in those steep mountain regions...who knows!

Prayers for Chris Norgren - all those with him on his flight and their families too!

Father talks about pilot missing in Nepal
POSTED: 10:29 PM CDT May 12, 2015
UPDATED: 09:21 AM CDT May 13, 2015

The pilot of a missing US Marine helicopter delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nepal is from Wichita, search for U.S. helicopter missing in Nepal...his name is Chris Norgren.
We spoke with his dad about him.

Ronald Norgren says Chris is bright and talkative. He graduated college with degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics and interned at all three major aircraft companies. He also coached at Bishop Carroll. Norgren says his son joined the Marine Corps when he heard he was about to get laid off. He served in Afghanistan, then went to pilot training.

He says Norgren deployed to Nepal after the first quake, then went back for humanitarian efforts after the second quake.

He says the last communication the family has received from him was Sunday, when he texted and sent flowers from Nepal for Mother's Day.

He says representatives from the Marines visited with him yesterday, but there's no official word on what happened.

Norgren says, "If anyone can make it through this, he can."

Bishop Carroll football coach Alan Schuckman confirmed the information with Eyewitness News Tuesday night.

Schuckman says Norgren played football for him at Bishop Carroll. Norgren then coached under Schuckman.

Schuckman says he is sending prayers to Norgren's family.
The chopper Norgren was piloting lost contact on Tuesday.
We'll keep you updated on this story as it develops.

3 bodies found near wreckage of missing U.S. Marine helicopter spotted in Nepal mountains

KATHMANDU, Nepal — Nepalese rescuers on Friday found three bodies near the wreckage of a U.S. Marine helicopter that disappeared earlier this week while on a relief mission in the earthquake-hit Himalayan nation, and officials said it was unlikely there were any survivors from the crash.

"The wreckage of the helicopter was found in pieces and there are no chances of any survivors," Nepal's Defense Secretary Iswori Poudyal said. He gave no details about the nationalities of the three victims, only saying their remains were charred.

The helicopter was carrying six Marines and two Nepalese army soldiers.

A separate team sent by the U.S. Marines also said they identified the wreckage as the missing helicopter, the UH-1 "Huey."

"The assessment of the site is ongoing and a thorough investigation will be conducted," a statement from the Marine-led joint task force said.

The wreckage was found about 15 miles from the town of Charikot, near where the aircraft had gone missing on Tuesday while delivering humanitarian aid to villages hit by two deadly earthquakes, according to the U.S. military joint task force in Okinawa, Japan.

The area is near Gothali village in the district of Dolakha, about 50 miles northeast of Nepal's capital Kathmandu.

They were all 'MILITARY'; 2 were Nepal Military service...the 3 remains that they found were CHARRED beyond recognition! It's going to take some time to do any DNA --- especially since 2 were Nepal Service men...they might not have DNA/dental records over there! The constant tremors just keeps moving the loose debris around and shifting more material over the burnt/crash site --- it's going to take some time to sort this out; and our military are already getting HEAT for spending time & man hours when there are lives that need emergency medical support ASAP.
Just a real tough decision for all involved!

Yes...me too, Sassy; and yet that young man was on a mission and his 6 other fellow Marines were on a supply mission trying to help save lives by delivering food & water to those up in the higher mountains --- I don't think they'd care that they're charred remains stay put until more humans were helped.

Even his ill/elderly dad stated the same thing; they'd spoke with Chris Norgren on Mothers Day when he'd phoned home to tell his mom 'Happy Mothers Day'!!! His dad had phoned Senator Roberts office to plead that more needed to be done if there was any possibility that their helicopter could be found intact but now --- the mission needs to return to helping those humans in need!brokenheart

I HOPE they all got a phone call, or some official went to the house... & that the families didn't put on the morning news & see that chopper & hear about the bodies...

Can the military make/ request for news, NOT to be released until next of kin is notifed ? * Or I'm just wishing people had more common sense & compassion *

Such a terrible disaster.

We are seeing refugees being brought o Sacramento because we have the cultural supports to make the transition easier. Eager to get stabilized and send whatever help they can "home" many have gone to work immediately and thank everyone profusely for what help they have gotten.

My sympathies to all but most especially to those who were in or went to Nepal to help. It is a risk all military and aid workers are willing to take and I hope their sacrifices are respected and honored. My son went to Haiti and the Middle East and both places among others had a profound effect on him. We really do not know how lucky we are to have the emergency response systems we have.

Can not say it often enough that being prepared and having some survival skills and supplies is a good idea.

Not to mention faith and an unconquerable spirit which Nepal seems to have. Prayers are with them.

All 8 bodies found at crashed US Marine chopper, Nepal army says
Published May 16, 2015 ·Associated Press

KATHMANDU, Nepal – The bodies of all eight people on board the U.S. Marine helicopter that disappeared this week during a relief mission in earthquake-hit Nepal have been recovered, Nepal's army said Saturday.

The wreckage was found on Friday and the first three bodies retrieved the same day by Nepalese and U.S. military personnel from the crash site in the mountains northeast of capital Kathmandu. The Nepalese army said in a statement Saturday that the remaining five bodies were also recovered.

The discovery of the wreckage followed days of intense search involving U.S. and Nepali aircraft and U.S. satellites. The aircraft, with six Marines and two Nepali soldiers on board, went missing while delivering aid on Tuesday.

Lt. Gen. John Wissler, commander of the Marine-led joint task force, told reporters in Kathmandu on Friday that his team could not immediately identify the cause of the crash of the UH-1 "Huey" or identify the bodies found.

He described the crash as "severe," and said the recovery team at the site encountered extreme weather and difficult terrain.

The wreckage was located about 15 miles from the town of Charikot, near where the aircraft went missing while delivering humanitarian aid to villages hit by two deadly earthquakes.

6 US soldiers and 2 NEP soldiers gave their life on the crash. We salute you. They risked themselves to help others. Actually, the helicopter was missing after a massive aftersock of magnitude 6.9 & found 3 days later near the epicenter, a remote village of Dolakha district.
