Climbers on Mount Everest ran for their lives on Saturday when a massive 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal and set off at least one deadly avalanche.

Jelle Veyt was just getting back to base camp when suddenly the earth "shook for a couple of seconds — badly," the Belgian climber told NBC News.

A sherpa just a few feet ahead turned and pointed behind him, Veyt recalled, saying he then turned around himself and saw a "huge cloud of snow" heading his way.

"I started running for my life....trying to be in a tent before it hit me," he said, telling NBC News he wasn't thinking about "much" other than running "as fast as I could to the tents" which were only about 200 feet away.
****
Pederson — who was with Veyt — hid behind a rock until the avalanche passed and he could make it into the tent.

He said his group had set up a temporary makeshift hospital in their old dining tent at base camp — and that so far at least 20 injured have come through.

"We are treating casualties — like smaller fractures to the head, shoulder injuries, etc," he told NBC News via a Facebook interview.

Pedersen said the more severely injured — including one man with "really bad" fractures who had been "blown off the mountain" were being taken to a larger group's tents. That group — International Mountain Guides — has "a lot more doctors," Pedersen explained.

"No injured can leave base camp it is snowing and bad visibility," he added.

And for all those 'Sherpas' that have perished these past 10+ years for the fool hardy wealthy mountain pocessed climbers and the accumulated amount of human debris and dead bodies piling up Up TOP the locals have long feared that the 'Mt Gods' were going to re-act and it would be costly!

So, how much waste are we talking about? As much as “26,500 pounds of human excrement” each season, “most of it bagged and carried by native Sherpas to earthen pits near Gorak Shep, a frozen lake bed and village at 16,942 feet,”

As Sherpa Pemba Nima told SummitClimb.com when asked about pollution coming from the Everest base camp, the problem extends beyond the mountain to the watershed below.

“Ohh… awful… Pollution everywhere. Our main water source has been polluted. The dumping site is along the main trail to EBC, sometimes our local animals (yaks) fall into the pit. Even though it has been moved to different location now, I think it takes so many years to disintegrate because of the cold climate the pollution will remain there for many years.”

Sad how what was once such a pristine place that only a few had obtained the top peak has now become the place of undeniable human waste and SHERPA hell...

BHAKTAPUR, Nepal (AP) — Nepalese photojournalist Amul Thapa smiled in spite of his hidden pain when he saw the scene he'll remember always: Rescue workers pulling a 4-month-old boy from the wrecked home where he'd been trapped 20 hours after the earthquake.

Sonit Awal's chubby cheeks were caked in chalky, concrete dust. One tiny fist curled tightly shut, the other seemingly covering his face.

His 9-year-old sister was watching him when the magnitude-7.8 temblor struck at midday Saturday, collapsing many historic buildings in the town of Bhaktapur, just east of Nepal's capital.

The children's parents were both away but the girl managed to escape unhurt. When Thapa, who works with KathmanduToday.com, first heard Sonit's cries, the baby was trapped under a wooden beam.

Out of such horrid disaster and chaos a miracle and blessings; and just today another young man was found several days after being buried alive --- survivors being pulled out one by one!

The latest tally on missing EU member state nationals, reported by Agence France-Press and Reuters, comes as the death toll in the region passed 6,200 six days after the magnitude-7.8 quake struck Nepal, a poor Himalayan nation of 28 million.

Now estimates are that this disaster could pass 10,000 humans easily! Prayers for Napel and all those other countries and aid workers too!

Rescuers find 3 survivors in Nepal days after earthquake
Published May 03, 2015

Rescuers found three survivors in a Nepal village days after the deadly magnitude 7-8 earthquake, an official said Sunday.

Surya Prasad Upadhaya, a government administrator, said two men and a woman were pulled out from near Syauli village. They have been taken to a nearby military hospital for treatment.

The district is the worst hit by the earthquake with the highest number of casualties.

It is located about 35 miles west of the capital, Kathmandu.

The rescue comes as villagers plead for aid in Nepal's mountain villages.

U.N. humanitarian officials said Saturday they are increasingly worried about the spread of disease. They said more helicopters are needed to reach isolated mountain villages like Pauwathok, which were hard to access even before the quake.

At the entrance of Pauwathok, a wooden sign stands, cobbled together from debris of homes flattened by Nepal's devastating earthquake. Its message: "WE NEED HELP. PLEASE HELP."

A steep winding road leads up to the ruins of the small village of Pauwathok, perched on a ridge about 3,600 feet above sea level. It's just 30 miles east of Kathmandu, Nepal's capital. But villagers say not one government official, not one soldier has visited since the massive quake struck a week ago, underscoring just how unprepared and overwhelmed Nepal's government has been.

Early Saturday, a convoy of covered trucks approached Pauwathok. The trucks were apparently transporting aid and escorted by Nepalese police carrying automatic weapons. Hungry residents ran toward the road.

The trucks were not stopping.

There is NO LOGIAL explanation why.... aid has not reached Nepal villagers. A week!? With nothing & no one came? I understand they are cut off logistically. But I don't except that.
Where there is a will, there is a way.

I'm trying my best not to explore over this.... it is deplorable ! explode

Sadly the reality is for these nations they are so ill equipped to handle those large military supply planes and now the airport had to do this >>>

Nepal forced to close only international airport to big planes as runway deteriorating

KATHMANDU (Nepal), May 3, 2015:

Despite dire need by millions, earthquake-hit Nepal on Sunday was forced to close its only international airport to big airplanes flying in relief supplies and aid workers because the only runway can't handle the strain of the stream of large aircraft flying in to help.

Medium and small-size jets will still be allowed to land, officials said.

It is only the latest complication in global efforts to aid people suffering in the wake of the April 25 quake, the impoverished country's biggest and most destructive in eight decades.

People in Nepal — both in remote villages and the capital, Kathmandu - have complained about not seeing any rescue workers or international aid and about a lack of temporary shelters, with many sleeping out in the open because of fears of aftershocks bringing down their damaged homes.

Birendra Shrestha, the manager of Tribhuwan International Airport, located on the outskirts of Kathmandu, said bigger planes were banned because the runway was deteriorating.

The runway was built to handle only medium-size jetliners and not the large military and cargo planes that have been flying to the airport since the magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck, he said.

The last week has seen a steady procession of big jets trying to fly in goods and relief workers, as well as a swarm of journalists, but the small airport has parking slots for only nine jets and only one runway.

There have been reports of cracks on the runway and other problems at the only international airport in Nepal and the only one capable of handling jetliners.

One week after the quake, aid has been slow in reaching those who need it most. In many places, it has not come at all.

U.N. humanitarian officials said on Saturday that they were increasingly worried about the spread of disease.

They said more helicopters were needed to reach isolated mountain villages that were hard to access even before the quake.

The true extent of the damage from the earthquake is still unknown as reports keep filtering in from remote areas, some of which remain entirely cut off.

The U.N. says the quake affected 8.1 million people — more than a quarter of Nepal's 28 million people.

The government said on Sunday that the quake had killed 7,040 people. Laxi Dhakal, a Home Ministry official, said hopes of finding survivors had faded dramatically.

'Unless they were caught in an air pocket, there is not much possibility,' he said.

Which means scheduling landings in close countries and off loading onto smaller airplanes and helicopters and all those flights in & out of disaster areas while there are still tremors and landslides going on --- in mountainous regions --- it is just a horrendous undertaking for everyone; but they are trying...it just taking lots of time to get up there! And time isn't what those injured people have a lot of. PRAYERS FOR THE VICTIMS and donated money, seems all I'm able to do from here! UGH
