I'm still feeling quite attached to mine and have never thought of having it removed. It is quite cheap to have it removed privately, about 20...including tip Hahahaha, that must be in the back of the local curry restaurant? This weeks special: Vindaloo & Circumcision - 20 Steer clear from them curry restaurants, I say! Go to the fish & chip shop! Dang, now I want fish & chips.. I was going to mention the cheese and ham that i've had for breakfast the last few days in Holland, but someone else has already mentioned cheese on this thread Oh that's right, you were in Holland .. I was wondering where you'd gone off to! Don't tell me you've been in my area and not told me about it!!! |

I am also of the purist mindset and don't like messing with nature. But sometimes nature needs a little tweaking because even nature is not perfect, i.e., appendix. We have unnecessary body parts which either need tweaking, as in via circumcision, or removing, as in an appendix. Crystal, you made rather bold and brash statements without seeing the irony and contradiction in your own words. If your son had been circumcised in the first week of his life as the medical preventative practice used by the Hebrews which to you is an obsolete practice, your son would have been spared the medical ordeal and suffering which he endured as an adult. Something to think about.

the appendix actually has some immune function... lol...like tonsils...in children, the immune function and defenses are not yet fully developed... but as nature goes, we mature and so does the immune system and eventually the tonsils regress to something we can live without. i dont know if the appendix normally enlarges and shrinks during this process as well, but the immune function does play a role in gut protection as children start eating and are exposed to different foods and germs... but we can still live normal lives without them...lol..
as for the foreskin... as far as i've read, it served to protect the penis while baby boy was inside the womb... other than that, not much else ive found... hope this information helps ^^^ lol... i believe in mother nature ... as much as i believe in science and the wisdom of traditional health practices and the value of religious belief... |

We can agree that even nature is not perfect. Tonsils is another good example of nuisance body parts.

I've had it for a long time, and I just get flare ups every now and again. Doesn't really bother me. I've had my tonsils out, I was about 27 I think, it wasn't pleasant, I had complications, heavy bleeding, severe swelling and infection. They drugged me up so much in hospital I don't remember much, but I remember coming home and getting a infection, not nice!! But saying that, all worth it!! Better than getting tonsillitis every month. |

I reading this thread and all of the pros and cons written, I started to wonder a bit as to why me and my 3 brothers we circumcised. I don't believe it was a religious reason or a era reason.
I think my father just wanted us to have a nice looking aerodynamic piece down there.. like him. I guess he figured,if it worked for him (there were 8 of us kids.. and Mom seemed happy) it would work for us to. Now that's a father looking out for his sons future!!..... THANKS Dad !!! |

Actually, I've read that is one of the reasons parents use. In fact I did too. |

the dorsal hood technique does not take away the frenulum... it's the most common technique done in our country, and probably the simplest, overall...but i imagine it is technically challenging and quite risky to do in a baby, due to the small size, and lack of ability to cooperate and stay still during the procedure... It's the doctors skill that is what I was concerned about. I'm sure my son doesn't miss it. |

I noted in Crystal's article that circumcision is called penile reduction surgery....I wonder if circumcision contributes to the "crooked" ones that are out there? Being that maybe too much of the skin was removed? I've seen scaring well below the top of the shaft down to the middle on some. and Pansy....you say that this procedure is performed on 13 year olds in your country? Do they complain of pain, compared to a baby who will not remember? There's a group of us {8 close gal friends, from high school days through college} and we have 8 boys...all born in 1976 {that was a huge year for boys} and out of those 8 - 6 chose to have our boys circumcised and 2 chose not too. I remember once after the last baby boy was born {they avg 2-3 months separation for the most part} one of the un-circumcised moms started asking the rest of us about 'Why, we had decided to do that to our little boys'? And the consensus was - the 'Dad's demanded it!' Had it been left up to us mothers we would not have put our little baby boys through that barbaric 'snip & cut'; but our men folk wouldn't be persuaded otherwise! While I've found this topic fascinating - it does make me wonder; is it the 'NORM' for the DADS to insist that their little boys get circumcised or is it the mom's decision or both? BTW - none of us were of the Jewish faith, so it wasn't based on religion. There have been times that I still recall hearing my baby scream in that room where they did that procedure and it haunts me that I didn't stand my ground about that! |

In my son's case, it was both our decisions. Yes, to be like dad, and cleanliness, not religion. 4th or more generation circumcision in this family. |
