It is because it takes a long to really meet someone. If we all acted like ourselves, none of us would ever get a date. So people put on this dog and pony show to represent themselves differently when they meet new people. Sometimes this may go on for months or years before they act like their true selves.. Sad, but true. Think about how many unlikeable people you know that have had or have significant others.. not a coincidence.
