as I understand it, I am no expert either, is that it is a group of hackers that are intent with exposing illegal activities of our governments. I often find myself thinking, tv is the brainwashing machine that keeps us all doomed by keeping us distracted from the things that we should really be worried about. in theory, would these "hackers" be able to hack all cable and satellite providers knocking out theyre transmissions? my feeling is that when people finally stop watching tv they might actually get informed on what is happening in this country. I feel that would lead to our public servants being held accountable for their crimes against the laws of this country. ive seen hackers knock out the PSN (playstaion network) and XBOX live, is it possible for them to do such a thing? (hack tv) and if so why haven't they done it yet? this is something I think about from time to time. just wanted to hear some input from others who might know more about the subject than myself.

Geeks don't stroll, we leave that to the dweebs and the geezers. The reason people don't 'hack' tv broadcasts is because that broadcast takes thousands to millions of volts to power. Aside from the FCC regulating who when where how and why whoever has access to the equipment necessary to broadcast to tv viewers, it'd take a few million dollars just to have the equipment shipped in let alone the pricetag on the towers and everything else. Then they'd have an electric bill that would look like Disney world's for the few minutes they pirated the broadcast before the nearest SWAT team arrived. Anonymous hackers are anonymous for a reason, they can run a program from any networked computer or smartphone and aside from anyone looking at their monitor no one would know, not even in the next room. If anyone COULD acquire the equipment they'd have to get licenses to use them from the FCC. That would be like applying to work at a bank and saying it would be easier to rob them if you worked there. Besides even if you had ten hot sisters to sell off as sex slaves to get the equipment on the black market, still impossible, they'd be able to see it from space before you and a thirty man crew could set it up. Save yourself the time and money, drive to the nearest courthouse, kick a bailiff in the nuts and slap the DA. You'll end up in the same place.

Millions of people everywhere have camcorders and microphones, have you ever heard any of them talking on your radio or seen them on your tv? No. Why? The FCC. The FAA has a lot to do with this too. If someone could broadcast a signal strong enough they could be mistaken for ground control. We typically don't like it when planes drop out of the sky or run into buildings. There are also emergency weather and information radio broadcasts. They have to be everywhere so they can't afford to broadcast with as much power as the more popular radio stations. They don't allow citizens or businesses to have equipment more powerful than that without licensing. This is where your brainwashing comes in. You are only close enough to local radio stations, their dj, their rotation. This was true of tv until the 70s and early 80s when satellites and cable companies gave us many more choices and clearer pictures. If you dont like local news, change the channel. Still it would take someone capable of wiring a large city's traffic lights to be able to do what you're suggesting and that would only be in a local area. There are different cable companies and satellites that service different areas. Dallas and Houston for example are both in Texas but one may have Cox and the other Time Warner. It all depends on who has the contract to service the area. Supposedly it's so we don't have a monopoly but both companies don't operate in the same area. It all has to do with $ and lots of it going from our pockets to theirs. Cable companies don't actually broadcast either. All they do is provide you a one time connection to all of the networks that make and broadcast their shows.
