this world we live in can be so fast, so all-consuming, we forget to notice others, to step outside of us, and see what's happening in other's worlds, their lives.

I have always been something of a loner and always had to work hard for what I got. When I was working in the prisons, I would make friends with people who were "loners" and didn't have many friends or the new employees who needed help to learn their job, spent time teaching them the computer system and so on. I agree, just because they took a little longer to learn the job, didn't make them a bad employee, sometimes they were the best employees.

As part of my job, I got calls from inmate family members & would resolve their problems & answer questions. I was suddenly getting all the calls, as the other secretaries didn't want to deal with them. I didn't mind, I knew their issues were getting resolved.
