Has anyone gotten a PUP virus in their computer lately? I ran Malwarebytes and they found: 4 PUP.optional.mindspark.A. Has anyone ever gotten one, and if so, did putting it in quarantine remedy the situation.

I have never had one of those yet. I use advanced system care for my viruses and malware. That program is amazing and gets into the computer very well. I have never seen one that details and in depth.

PUP's or (Potentially Unwanted Programs) usually consist of things like browser add-ons and toolbars... When installing programs 98% of programs, they will install additional software that do not provide any benefit, and tend to just slow down the OS overall... By choosing the option to "customize" the install during initial setup, the additional software can be avoided, however some PUP's are pretty tricky to thwart installation.

malwarebytes is a great spyware program and if you quarantine something you should not have to worry about it anymore. Do not format your computer over a pup.
Read what JDoTProXy says: He explains what a pup is.

@JdoTpro is right.
Remove them after scan with Malwarebytes.
And then search your program files, application folder(admin & all),local temp files(under administrator, its maybe hidden), as well as registry folder(use regedit on run), to see software's registry (don’t know about win 10). Search all of them for any unwanted program. When you found, remove them.
Use task manager to detect any unwanted program is running in background (batter when connected on net).
You can use ccleaner or tune up for clean the registry too.
You can use some handful ad removal software too. Use them to clean & remove them too after cleaning.

Decided to pop in .. it's an old topic, but who knows .. someone might find some useful info maybe ..

Malwarebytes is one of the best, however doesn't detect all the threats though.
HitmanPro is really good, when it comes to finding and removing potentially unwanted software, viruses and tracking cookies. It has a 30-day free trial, so can be used as a free second opinion scanner.
If worried about adware like malicious browser extensions, hijackers, etc .. try AdwCleaner .. it's a part of Malwarebytes company today and works perfect.
But as always .. read carefully instructions, before to use any of those terminators.
I'd suggest to run Malwarebytes and HitmanPro one after another, so if one of them missed something, the other one can pick up ..

Been on computers since 1985 and online since 1995. Never had a virus that couldn't be avoided. But then, I don't click on stupid stuff.

A great way to combat the issue before it becomes an issue is to use a program called glass wire. Its completely free and is a great antivirus programme. It checks all of the packets going to and from your IP and will show you were they're coming from, and what they're doing. So if you download or torrent a programme and lets say a netbot virus is installed with it, then you will notice some dodgy internet traffic and be able to track down and delete those files.

Avast free-edition has a “ boot-time “ scan option which will restart the computer and scan the computer before the Operating System and drivers are running. I’ve had virus manifest themselves to where a boot-time scan was the only way to remove the malware.
