That's right people, it's really shocking the way we treat mothers so poorly in the U.S. as compared to almost 200 other countries in the world.
Just stating the facts, if they shock you that's because they are shocking.
From the reactions...I see something positive so I will just ignore the rest but I do keep in mind that it's important to respect the opinions of others...let us all keep that in mind shall we?

what makes you believe that simply bearing a Child confers some extra "Rights" on you?
Time you research what Rights are!
BTW,since "Society" doesn't make a Woman pregnant, wtf ought "Society" have to pay?
those "Extras" in Money and time are a graciously expended privilege to Mothers,so stop Bellyaching about not getting something you are not entitled to by Right!

If society ethically valued human beings, there would be rights to mothers, children, fathers. Family including the rights of caretakers and providers would be of utmost importance. I imagine that society would also give fathers paid leave to bond with their children. I am talking on a whole other dimension from the society we are used to. So, this society has absolutely nothing to do with selfish entitlement as it does now. Read carefully if you want to catch the meaning of my words.

It's more resected to be a singe mother on a free ride then a single dad busting his *** on no free ride.

How does any parent get respect when there is no paid parental leave in the U.S. , so if anyone get's less respect it's the single moms especially if the father of the child has no income, like he is prison, which many guys go to prison just to escape paying child support. And that is where they get their free ride, medical, dental, food, shelter, utilities and more all paid for by our tax money. And prisons are really full in the U.S. But of course it's the mom's who are to blame for having children in the first place, because they should not be allowed to pro-create, only the rich can have children in the U.S. and be respected..
Can you explain that again now?

I wonder why you didn't notice you're paying taxes to support all the deadbeat dads in prison.

What free ride again?
"the majority of single mothers in the United States are separated, divorced or widowed: and they work more hours and yet have higher poverty rates than single mothers in other high-income countries."

in what universe?

not many have 'free' rides, just because their jobs don't end in paid compensation,,,doesn't mean they didn't work as hard as those which did,,,

so it doesn't make it any more 'free',,,,time and energy are as valuable of a 'spent' resource as money

I seriously doubt that it is common in the USA for a married woman who is pregnant with her husband's baby to become a widow before her baby is born.

My late wife had an unpaid leave of absence for a few weeks, starting a few weeks before my son was born and ending a couple of weeks after my son was born. My family survived during that time despite the fact that my wife did not have her own income during her leave of absence.

The point is in most countries have more respect for mothers:
