A young man of only twenty or so
Readies himself to tell his family he must go
Unsure of when he'll return
He hugs them all and says goodbye
Face completely emotionless
He held his mother as she cried
Days are long and hard
Nights too short
He often sits reading the letters his mother wrote
Closing his eyes for a moment
Her cheerful smile and calming scent surround him
For an instant he was no longer a soldier
Truging through sand having to watch every move
But a little boy chasing his puppy in the warm July night
As the grass tickled his bare feet
In the distance he heard his mother calling
It was time for bed
With a tiny smile his brilliant blue eyes sparkled
Like diamods in the sun
He threw his arms around her squeezing tight
I love you mommy goodnight
Feeling the smallest tinge of homesickness
He opened his eyes picked up the pen and began to write
With a sad sigh he ended the letter
I love you mommy goodnight

I lost my brother in Iraq november 30 2006. no one knows how true this is. I used to get letters and an occasional email from him and yesterday I closed my eyes and tried to hear him laugh. His birthday would be next monday so he is weighing heavey on me.

i had to read it again...like i said in my email to her..she needs to mail the guys who really need to hear it. its easy to sit in your warm safe home and say how touching or sad this is, but you will never know(and i hope none of you ever do)what pure hell war really is...


but plz girl(hell anyone) just send to one of OUR MEN,it will make his day....
