I was a member at a gym for one year. As a result of exercising, I automatically drank more water. I cut down on my consumption of sugary beverages. I drink tea often. I eat fruits and/or vegetables daily. I started eating beans. I cut down on my sodium intake by eating rice and other processed foods less often. I did not lost weight. In fact, I gained weight.

A new year is about to start so I'm thinking I'm going to drink at least two bottles of water a day, eat one can of beans per week, and eat at least two fruits or vegetables a day instead of one. I know this won't help but it sucks that I've made the right changes and have not obtained the results I want and deserve.

Are there any foods that have helped you lose weight?

Your diet seems fine. What training were you doing at the gym?

You state that you drank a lot of water. That's good but water retention could also increase weight temporarily.
It's not to always rely on what the weight scale says coz you could be losing fat and gaining muscle without your weight changing.
Either way rather rely on the physical way of how you feel and look coz the scale could be fooling you.
Do you feel like you've gained after all your hard work?

I agree with Romeo. you could lose fat and gain weight due to developing mucsle mass.
the number on the scale is not the only measure of success.
how are your clothes fitting? are they a little more loose.
good luck on your endeavor.

Don't understand the diet... What's the big deal with eating beans? Is that all the greens you eat a week, one can of beans??
At least 2 bottles of water (liters?) is a lot, you can drink too much water, in fact people can die of water poisoning... Drinking too much water flushes out the healthy stuff as well, minerals, vitamins AND salt. So a liter and a half approx. is enough.
Do you use salt? I didn't for a long long time, but then found out that isn't healthy either, cos your kidneys need a certain amount of salt and blood pressure to get rid of waste / toxins. Otherwise they cannot function properly.

Another thing that can cause not losing weight is eating things you are slightly allergic too. Not allergic to the point you'd get ill, sometimes we have very minor allergies we don't even know about. Then your body reacts in defense by converting stuff into bodily fat.

I seem to have this with potatoes (Night shades) and pork. Since I stopped eating those and eat rice or pasta instead and chicken or beef, I started losing weight like you wouldn't believe IN SPITE of eating cookies, crisps or nuts (not overly much, but still do eat them as I'm not dieting). Apparently my body can now relax since I stopped eating both potatoes and pork .. Pork is real bad for the body! I actually had to eat MORE as I was losing weight too fast.

And for years had the same prob you had, not being able to lose weight, no matter what I did and tried. But that was for another reason why you may not lose weight: stress.

As for the rest, do what Romeo oh Romeo said: look at your body and not at the scales! Do you look better (body toning), feel better?

Hey Mandy...Calorie restriction combined with excessive amounts of cardio burns muscle as well as fat...Not good because muscle is what drives your metabolism...It's also what gives your body definition...Have you ever heard the expression "skinny fat"?...That's a body with a saggy butt and a sloppy belly and it's not a given with age or childbirth...Don't give up, change up! :-))...Here's the formula for women who want to lose fat while building (or maintaining) muscle mass...1 to 1.5 grams of protein, 1 gram of carbohydrates and .2 grams of fat per pound (your weight), per day...Get back in the gym and get with a trainer...Tell her you want to lose fat and build muscle...If she knows her stuff, she will recommend a heavy weight lifting program combined with a high intensity "interval" cardio workout and she'll set you up on the right schedule...Stick to your workout and diet and you should be able to lose a pound of fat per week...Don't rely on the scale, use a tape measurer...You'll be amazed at the results! ...

Hey, everyone! It's not even about what the scale says. I can see more fat on my body. It's just awful when I put my leg up on my bathroom counter to apply cream. The fat on my sides is just increased... UGH!!! So... I SHOULDN'T eat beans often? And I definitely do not drink two litres of water a day. :P Just regular sized bottles! I actually don't really care for pork. Beef and lamb are my favourite types of meat! I rarely eat lamb, though. I don't go to the gym anymore but I have always done a lot of walking.

Theres no problem with consuming beans.
I assume you must be less active then before that lead you not to lose weight since you stopped going to train

I understand being overweight. When my wife died I was over 340 pounds.
I've lost 160 pounds and all the health problems that went with it.
Keeping it off going on 5 years now.
No diets, no pills, no doctors, no exercise, no calorie counting.
If I can do it you can do it.
Now I'm looking for a someone to share my life with.
