IMO marriage is only necessary if the couple are religious and its important to them to have their union blessed in a religious ceremony.
i am not religious so marriage is not as important to me. most marriages fail anyway these days, a piece of paper does not mean you are together forever. its love, the attitudes of the couple and their level of commitment to one another that dictates how successful they will be in lasting the distance.

Marriage is just grounds for divorce for some people. If 2 people want to be together, they will. Why bring the state or the church into it ? I have seen couples that have been happily together for years, get married and divorce within a year. My brother is on his 6th wife ! I wouldn't get married at gunpoint. Not until it comes with a gaurantee, and it never will. When you marry, you agree to stay together until death do you part. Not many last that long.

Marriage is a man made institution. Religious beliefs powers this institution which is basically the basis of what society preaches.

There is no guarantee of a successful relationship either married or not so it’s an individual choice.

Personally, I favour marriage to the one I love. If we failed, that’s our problem!
