Years roll on
Anger still festers Deep within the souls of many Standing behind a microphe In a freshly pressed suit An eerie silence setlles over the room They're all tired of hearing What he has to say No longer do they want to hear Another loved one must be sent away To a place one would only visit In their worst nightmare He cracks a corny joke But nothing could ease the tention Hanging heavily in the air Clearing his throat He attempts to explain why We must stay there It's the same old song and dance But as I sat in the living room No expression upon these lips Too angry for tears to sting these eyes My thoughts begin to shift What about them? The ones lacing their boots Every day wondering what lies ahead Feeling forgotten Nobody believes in them anymore They've given us so much Yet all we give in return Is an angry glare at the man Who is the leader of our great nation Suddenly my heart grew softer This shouldn't be about The false promises he has made For he is not the one Slipping on a uniform Lacing his boots The haunting question What will happen today Ever present No He is much too cowardly for that This is about the ones Who bravely press on Knowing very well Some may never come back To all of you who have the courage Who stood and said I will Because few others had the courage To face what you must every day To those who have already paid the highest price Thank you Read these words and take them to heart Because you shall not be forgotten And yes we do believe When darkness looms Just remember There are thousands back home Sending up a prayer Begging for your safe return |
