Jesus Verb, not a Noun
(Ricardo Arjona, a singer from guatemala)

Yesterday Jesus tuned in my guitar and made my senses acute, I get inspired
Paper and pencil in my hand i write down the song and I said I wouldn't write
Because speaking and writing about Jesus is a redundancy, it'd be better to act.
Then, something told me the only way to avoid redundancy is to tell the truth
To say that Jesus likes us to act, not to speak
To say that Jesus is more than just five letters which make up a name
To say that Jesus is a verb not a noun

Jesus is more than a simple straightforward theory
What are you doing reading the Bible all day brother?
What's written down there is summarised in love, come on and practice it
Jesus, my brothers, is a verb not a noun

Jesus is more than a temple of luxury with a baroque tendency
He knows that in the long run this is nothing more than rock
You carry the church in your soul and in the acts don't forget
That Jesus, my brothers, is a verb not a noun

Jesus is more than a group of ladies of the blackest conscience
Who expect to win their paradise with a charity club
If you want to be an active member you'll have to present to the board of directors
Your Swiss bank savings account and official links

Jesus is more than crossing your heart, kneeling and showing off
He knows that maybe on the inside their conscience burns
Jesus is more than a flower on the sin-saving altar
Jesus, my brothers, is a verb not a noun

Jesus converted his sermons into facts
If you have a coffee it's a sin say the Mormons
They have so little to do that they go around inventing things
Jesus, my brothers, is a verb not a noun

Jesus doesn't understand why they applaud him in the cult
They talk of honesty knowing that it's a fraud
Jesus is disgusted with the shepherd who gets rich off the faith
Jesus, my brothers, is a verb not a noun

In my neighbourhood the most religious woman was Miss Carlota
She spoke of love to your fellow man and she deflated a hundred balls
Since I was a boy I learnt that religion is nothing more than a method
With the prohibited title to think that everything has already been written

I was christened when I was 2 months old and I wasn't warned
There was a piñata party and I wasn't even asked
You christen me Jesus please so that amongst friends
I know you hate the protocol, my brother

Gentlemen don't divide the faith, borders are for the countries
In this world there are more religions than happy children
Jesus thought "I'll make myself invisible so that all my brothers
Stop talking so much about me and they hold out their hands to each other"

Jesus you are the best witness of the love I profess to you
I have a calm conscience, that's why I don't confess
Saying the Lord's Prayer doesn't let a murderer bring the dead back to life
Jesus, my brothers, is a verb not a noun

Jesus don't come down to earth, stay up there
All those who thought like you are already face upwards
Forgotten in some cemetary, with their ideals as their only baggage
They died with a smile on their lips because they were
A verb and not a noun
