athiests are athiests, because its allows them to acess the whole world and do what ever they want with absolutely no consequences, as their laws of the finite realm here, they cant do what ever these please here, but within that realm they can do what ever they want which in normaly would require eternal consequences by the ultimate judge God himself, wipe him out and you can mold humanity into anything you like and claim what is right for yourself, there by fulling engaging in the pleasures around, with out percieved guilt, they only use pseudo science of evolution to cover up the true desire, to validate their lifestyle as perfectly ok because its the "natural" course of life. In a sense you could say they are trying to be a god, buts its more along the lines of having a liscense to do whatever you want freely could you set that into proper sentences! Ran out of Breath just trying to read that! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mme La Marchale: Are you not Monsieur Crudeli? Crudeli: Yes, Madame. Mme La Marchale: Then you're the man who doesn't believe in anything. Crudeli: In person, madame. Mme La Marchale: Yet your moral principles are the same as those of a believer? Crudeli: Why should they not be -- as long as the believer is an honest man? Mme La Marchale: And do you act upon your principles? Crudeli: To the best of my ability. Mme La Marchale: What? You don't steal? You don't kill people? You don't rob them? Crudeli: Very rarely. Mme La Marchale: Then what do you gain by not being a believer? Crudeli: Nothing at all, madame. Is one a believer from motives of profit? -- Denis Diderot, "Conversation with a Christian Lady" (1774), trans. Derek Coltman, quoted from S T Joshi, ed, Atheism: A Reader, p. 229 http://www.positiveatheism.org/index.shtml |

I've got to believe, just based on the linguistics alone, that it would be impossible for an atheist to believe themselves to be "God", lest they'd no longer BE "an atheist", no? Very true. For a person to believe themself "God", they'd be an autotheist, not an atheist. |

What you fail to realize, is right in front of you. Imagine if you will a very painful fact.
Without our current 21st century understandings of biological changes in species, known as evolution, nothing in biology makes any sense. Let me repeat that, there is no biology without evolution. Scientists get paid to refute the facts of any theory. No scientist has cashed a check refuting the facts of evolution in over 150 yrs since it was first suggested by Darwin. What we know today Darwin would be amazed and in awe. Its game over, adam and eve story of creation has been thoroughly refuted. There are millions of scientific papers that show factual basis for evolution, and not one refuting it. Either every scientist ever to live in the last 150yrs said: "I could refute evolution and disprove all the facts in a scientific paper, but I have been sworn to secrecy under rules of our conspiracy to never cash the huge check for disproving it" OR The genesis account in the holy binky has been refuted! |

athiests are athiests, because its allows them to acess the whole world and do what ever they want with absolutely no consequences, we have morality , that prevents us from doing "whatever" .. it's really shameful you ( and those who think the same way ) need to be terrified by an eternal imaginary punishment to keep them in the right direction . |

I think there as many reasons that people don't/wont/ believe as there are that they do believe. its necessary to really speak with and observe individuals to try to find a 'reason' behind their reasoning most atheists I have spoken to have chosen atheism simply because they have no faith and cant/wont believe anything that cant be clearly and tangibly proven to them and they often have , what I believe to be, misguided views between how a God SHOULD Be and how God is,,,,ie why would a loving God condemn people to hell or allow children to die,, or allow misery in the world,,,or how could such and such from the bible be true if SCIENCE has proven such and such,,,,,,etc,,,etc,,,etc,,, "MOST ATHEISTS YOUVE TALKED TOO? Well Im not only athiest, Im also a-leprechaunist, a-unicornist, a-hobgoblinist etc etc etc Oh wait, there are are no labels for Not believing in childish nonsense, unless its "holy", then the label atheist is applied. The Romans called christians atheists for being monotheistic, its a stupid label. The truth is, we both dont believe in 99.999% of all god stories out there, we are both atheist to all of them,I just went one god further and scored a Perfect 100% :) |

The greater power doesn't control me, he gives me free will gives you free Will to either respond to his WILL or burn in hell for ever ? i see |

i don't really know what makes religious people nowadays think that they are so special , what makes you think your myths are different from ancient Greeks' and Romans' and Egyptians' ..... etc
ancient Greek religion had evolved since the Bronze age , and lasted till 250-300 AD ..... that's impressive , and i bet modern religions won't last that much as they are losing their positions rapidly due to the rise of science and technology . |

... they want to be thier own God? The center of thier universe? HMMM Oh I see, so beleiving in the Bible is ok. Beleiving in the Quran is ok. But believing in scientific logic is deluded. And here's me thinking that Christianity preached love and understanding. Both the Bible and the Quran teach love and understanding, at least i can tell about Quran , believe me dude , some of it's verses aren't friendly at all , especially when it's about non-Muslims |

In a sense you could say they are trying to be a god, buts its more along the lines of having a liscense to do whatever you want freely war is about power and greed and sometimes self defense religion rarely is a factor in the modern world,,,although the greed and hunger for power are often MASKED with claims of religion,,, |
|
|
|
religion rarely is a factor in the modern world how about the disastrous conflicts in the middle east nowadays ? have you heard with the "Islamic State" ? Islamic , not financial ... and it's not just a mask |
|
|
|
yet they asked for money, and
YES , its individuals hiding behind religion who are greedy for more power in their part of the world power and greed,, with religion as a mask Americas style is more power and greed with nationalism as a mask,,, |

While I agree with all the other points, I can't accept that "atheism is a religion", if only based on the linguistics, alone. "Theism" = "belief in the existence of a god or gods, especially belief in one god as creator of the universe, intervening in it and sustaining a personal relation to his creatures"; by adding the "a" in front of it, the word takes on the complete opposite meaning. "Religion" = "the belief in andworship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods; a particular system of faith and worship; a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance" While the last entry for "religion" could hold true, then it stands to reason that collecting comic books is "a religion", buying clothes is "a religion", and that sex addicts are simply being "religious". As Bill Maher said, "If atheism is a religion, then abstinence is a sexual position." |
