it was an inspired rant on racism, add/adhd probably for white kids, identity preservation, knowing what you are, not overspending on hair care products, loving one's self

basically people just being people, acceptance of the human form, life, as beautiful in all its variations, seeking liberty through that end.

something like that i posted on current events.

Got it - it was deleted only because it was posted in the wrong forum. It's a better fit for General Discussions. I'm sure if you posted it there, it would be fine.

Yes I can, but we need people's help. Here's your choices:

- We can hire someone to moderate the forums all day, reading all of the topics and moving them to the right place, deleting the bad ones, etc. But to do that, we'd have to charge money for membership cause we can't afford to do it and have the site free.

- You can help us by self-moderating the forums using the system we implemented.

- Vanchau and I can moderate the forums all day ourselves. But then there will be far fewer features developed, less people on the site because we can't work on getting more users in, etc.

After all the effort we've put into the site, I'd be surprised if the great community that we have isn't willing to pitch in a little and help by self-moderating the forums. But that's just my opinion.

i think making the vote public is a choice that would help

I totally disagree with making the vote public. You'd have a TON more arguments and fights if people knew who was voting to delete their topic. If you want the forums to degrade into insults and hard feelings, making the votes public would be a great way to do it.

don't get me wrong mike

i think yer doing a lot of good

but some just don't care if they run others off

they want things to stay as they were when they joined
and do not want to share (at least it seems that way)

only if they voted unjustly

I'm not sure that I understand 100% about the forums. Why isn't everything just under "forum" or "topic". That way no one gets deleted for the wrong forum.

Hey, I'm sorry if I seem pissy about this whole topic. I'm just super frustrated that people have factually incorrect opinions about the system and that this seems to be persisting no matter how many times I provide information on what's really happening.

I think the key misperception about the moderation feature is that people suspect there's a conspiracy of users against them if their topic gets deleted.

I promise you, though, if that was happening, we would know. We have all kinds of reports on the system that show us:

- Who's nominating the most topics for deletion
- Who votes on each topic
- If people tend to vote in exactly the same fashion as other users
- etc. etc.

So I can tell you for a fact that it's NOT people who are old time users voting together that cause topics to be deleted. I would love to show you who's voting on topics so that you could see that for yourself. But I know that would cause WAY more issues than it would solve. So you're just going to have to trust us that it's not happening.

It's up for deletion, but it's going to get saved. It already has 3 "Do Not Delete" votes - just one more and it will be fine.

I just don't see that as a sign that the system is not working. I see it as an example of the system working as designed, i.e. even someone who nominates a topic incorrectly can't get enough votes for a wrong decision to happen.
