I have never traveled alone outside of the USA but have done a lot here. In Aug. I had plans to visit friends in Colorado but after 6 days there they had a death in the family and had to leave town. I decided to stay and rented a car, visited another friend north of Denver for 2 days and then hit the road. Went north from Colorado springs to Loveland, west across the Rocky Mountain National Park, down the west side to the interstate, west to Vail and then south to Silverton and Durango, thru a small portion of northern New Mexico and worked my way back to the Colorado Springs airport where I was for a couple of days (due to my flight being cancelled because of weather in Chicago). I also did a lot of things, rode the Cog train to Pikes Peak, the zoo, rode the Sky Coaster again over Royal Gorge, rode train at Royal Gorge...I put 1465 miles on my rental in 5 days.. Needless to say I was exhausted when I finally stopped.
In 2009, I did a 6000 mile cross country road trip to northern Idaho and back alone. (my brother lives in Idaho).. I am 72 yrs old...LOL Will continue to travel as long as I have enough money and my health. Lots of beautiful country in the USA.. |

PS... Use common sense when traveling alone. I'm always off the road before dark, aware of my surroundings when stopping (for gas, scenic views, etc.) and call (family member or friend) every night to let them know I am ok and what my schedule is for the next day. I went to Walmart before I started, bought a small cooler, water , snacks, fruit. You never know when you might break down. I also purchased a portable battery charger (Halo) for my phone and tablet.
Travel safe and have fun!! |

Go with a group tour if you need to go alone. It will be safer and you will see much more. More costly to go alone on group tour but remember they include food..hotels..transportation and people to talk with.

Personally I've travelled a lot by myself and don't think its so bad...anything a woman does by herself can be dangerous...hiking alone, walking in the dark alone, living alone...ect.. If you use your head and take care of yourself...have a plan and stick to it things should be ok... I don't think fear that something bad might happen should stop anyone from achieving what they want...just don't trust anything outside of your better judgement...

Depends what country you're in or plan to go to. I think there are countries where it wouldn't be particularly smart for a woman to travel on her own. I wouldn't like to travel in Middle Eastern/Muslim countries on my own. I.e. been to Morocco with my ex. That would be okayish on your own, provided you are very careful. We travelled on local buses, which hardly any tourist did, and at some point we were literally crammed in, pushed up against the windows, cos there were that many ppl in the bus. I would never ever have done that on my own. Even with my ex there, I felt uncomfortable, so did he. ANd had I been on my own, I sure as he|| would have left the Sukh well before dusk. We had intended to do that as well, got lost. Things can get awkward after dusk in places like that, however good they may be during the day. So it depends. I'm a South African living and working in Saudi Arabia and in the time that I've been here I've never had any problems. I've recently visited Abu Dhabu, Bahrain and Dubai - all 3 trips ALONE - I had no problems. I'll be going to Egypt at the end of November ALONE and I'm looking forward to it. No fear just anticipation of having a good time My point; the Middle East is not dangerous (in my opinion). I actually feel safer here than any other places I've travelled in the world. |

I travel alone all the time. I always let the hotel know where I'm going and who I'm with. And be cautious and don't drink too much. You'll be fine, follow your gut instinct. Good Luck, Happy Travel
