John Crawford III did not even have the BB gun pointed in the air. In fact, he wasn’t even facing the officers who shot him.


At least, that’s what his family’s attorney has said after being allowed to review surveillance video from the fateful Aug. 5 incident at an Ohio Wal-Mart, the Raw Story reports.


According to attorney Michael Wright, the surveillance video showed Crawford leaning against the unpackaged pellet rifle, supporting his body, while he spoke on the phone, with his back turned to the police.


“John was doing nothing wrong in Wal-Mart—nothing more, nothing less than shopping,” Wright said of the video, which the state’s attorney general permitted him to see, according to the report.

Presecutor tries to exaggerate or amplify the bad stuff while minimizing the "good" stuff.
With the defense doing the opposite?

Each giving their interpretation of events and deciding what's important?

i.e. doesn't everyone try to cover their own butt with the resources they have access to?

Isn't this also why human beings make horrible witnesses?

yes, it is most legal cases
yes, prosecutors do those things
yes, defense does the opposint
yes, people use their available resources

no, human beings aren't always the best witnesses because they
A. have implicit biases that can affect their perception

but the more of them you have, the more you can ween that risk out by comparing similarities

and

B. they can be manipulated easily by threat of force, harm or legal actions,,,,
