Ferguson Cop Had 'Serious Facial Injury,' Source Tells ABC News

The Ferguson police officer who shot and killed an unarmed teenager suffered “a serious facial injury” in the altercation before firing the fatal shots, according to a source close to the officer who spoke to ABC News today.

A source close to Wilson told ABC News that during the struggle at the patrol car, Wilson suffered “a serious facial injury.”
The injury was not described, but last week Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said that Wilson had swelling to the side of his face.

The hospital photo of the office's facial injury is expected to be shown to the grand jury, the source said.

Supporters of Wilson, however, point to a videotape taken by a Ferguson resident showing Brown's body lying in the street. In the background of the video a man's voice can be heard saying, "Police got out and ran after him. The next thing I know he's coming back towards the officer. The police had his gun drawn on him."

That would conflict with witnesses who said Brown was standing still with his hands raised when Wilson shot him.

Those developments came today as protesters and police faced off again in Ferguson overnight, with a thrown water bottle briefly re-igniting the turmoil, but authorities are hopeful the unrest in the St. Louis suburb is reaching a turning point.

The overnight unrest followed the Tuesday St. Louis police shooting of a 23-year-old black man after he charged at officers with a knife. After the fatal shooting, onlookers began chanting “Hands up, don’t shoot” and “no justice, no peace.” The chants have been a hallmark of the protests in nearby Ferguson.

Missouri cop was badly beaten before shooting Michael Brown, says source

Darren Wilson, the Ferguson, Mo., police officer whose fatal shooting of Michael Brown touched off more than a week of demonstrations, suffered severe facial injuries including a bone fracture near one eye and was nearly beaten unconscious by Brown moments before firing his gun.

The Assistant (Police) Chief took him to the hospital, his face all swollen on one side,” said the insider. “He was beaten very severely.”

“They ignored him and the officer started to get out of the car to tell them to move," the source said. "They shoved him right back in, that’s when Michael Brown leans in and starts beating Officer Wilson in the head and the face."
The precise extent of Wilson's injuries are unclear.
The source claims that there is "solid proof" that there was a struggle between Brown and Wilson for the policeman’s firearm, resulting in the gun going off – although it still remains unclear at this stage who pulled the trigger. Brown started to walk away according to the account, prompting Wilson to draw his gun and order him to freeze. Brown, the source said, raised his hands in the air, and turned around saying, "What, you're going to shoot me?"

At that point, the source told FoxNews.com, the 6-foot-4, 292-pound Brown charged Wilson, prompting the officer to fire at least six shots at him, including the fatal bullet that penetrated the top of Brown's skull, according to an independent autopsy conducted at the request of Brown's family.
Wilson was left dazed by the initial confrontation, the source said. He is now "traumatized, scared for his life and his family, injured and terrified" that a grand jury, which began hearing evidence on Wednesday, will "make some kind of example out of him," the source said.

The source also said the dashboard and body cameras, which might have recorded crucial evidence, had been ordered by Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson, but had only recently arrived and had not yet been deployed.

Nabil Khattar, CEO of 7Star Industries – which specializes in firearms training for law enforcement and special operations personnel – confirmed that police are typically instructed to use deadly force if in imminent danger of being killed or suffering great bodily injury.

“You may engage a threat with enough force that is reasonably necessary to defend against that danger,” he said.

The (Police Chief Tom Jackson)defied the FOIAs as long as he could, noted the insider. A powerful, ugly spin has completely ruined public discourse on this whole situation.

It has already been reported that Officer Wilson had little more than a bruise on his face; the police incident report appears to just been created 10 days late after an ACLU request with nothing but the dater, time, name of the victim and the heading of homicide

I question why something DIRECTLY Related to what happened, like the results of this attack on the officer has been not questioned or backed with evidence or photos or medical reports of any type

yet

photo of the officer receiving an award and video of the deceased stealing cigarettes have been widely available and spread

its all been very strange to me,,,I cant wait to hear and see the actual EVIDENCE they are presenting at grand jury,,,,,,

Ms, what you and others fail to understand is, the "myth" that this whole incident was racially motivated had to be created. Eric Holder and other racial bigots feed off of these things.

most things have some racial element to them, whether directly or indirectly

but I have not stated anything about that here

nor have I stated a belief that its racially 'motivated'
or had to be 'created'

I do believe police will cover things up and protect their own, and Im not hating on them for that

Im just pointing out how strange it is that there is all this reporting of how badly injured he was but absolutely no evidence of that fact presented yet

while, in the meantime, we have had plenty of evidence to look at regarding the deceased on that night

its poorly handled and strange,,,,

That is still assault.
I'm sure, when the investigation is complete, the Drs report of injuries sustained will include all the facts.

Again, a 6'+ feral attacks any packing citizen makes the choice of putting his life in jeopardy.

Personal responsibility. Something many liberals can't comprehend.

with the exception of maybe pbs, every news story I can remember reading in mainstream has some 'spin', and yet discourse has managed to go on,,,,

This wouldn't have stopped the rioting. Those criminal's took advantage of a situation. Now were finding the key witness this incident, the thug who keeps changing his story and basically got the riots started with his lies, has a history of lying to the police and has a warrant out for his arrest for doing so. Plus we have the video a resident shot that backs up the officers claim and the autopsy that backs up the officers claim, the video of the Robbery and now the medical reports about the officer. He wont be charged and if he is, it's a slam dunk win for the defense.

No, it was RELEASED 10 days later. You have a Department who is trying to slow down rioting, the less information they give the better. It will all come out at trial. Also a shattered eye socket is more then a bruise.....

That's not true. EVERYTHING they shared that made that didn't paint the Thug Brown in a positive light stirred the pot even worse.
