Thousands go without water as Detroit cuts service for nonpayment Welcome to the "NEW and Improved" America! When crony corporations control the water, food, utilities, and now our healthcare... while outsourcing our jobs and enjoying tax breaks and welfare we pay for them..... this is our reward! http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-detroit-water-20140629-story.html#page=1 |

Why not? Or do we pay for the air we breath next? Water is a basic of life, and our Constitution guarantees our right to life, so by what right in our Constitution can they refuse us a basic necessity of life.... much less charge us for it? |

Who will pay for that? Or are the Citizens entitled to free Services from the Watercorporations,be it Governmental or Private? Nothing is free in life, not even death, that costs you your life! |

For what it is worth, water actually costs very little. 95% of most water/sewer bills actually goes to treat the sewage.

In Rome they had public water fountains (you had to bring your own bucket).

I agree, nothing is free if it is "provided" by a service, however, we pay taxes, the govt does not pay for the water it consumes to power the computers it uses to spy on us, the utility companies receive tax dollars, most of the facilities used are built by the Corp of Engineers which we pay for, lines are put in by laborers we pay for, yet the companies charge us for it by regulation of it. So how can it ever be considered free even if it were provided at no charge? |

Water is a basic of life, and our Constitution guarantees our right to life, so by what right in our Constitution can they refuse us a basic necessity of life.... much less charge us for it? Uh, you'd have to state just where the U.S. Constitution "guarantees our right to life". Anyway, if you believe that all water should be absolutely free, then are you in favor of people being required to haul their own water from its source and to make it drinkable through their own means? |

I get my water for free every day,can you say well water,,I new you could,

I get my water for free every day,can you say well water,,I new you could, Yep! I have relatives who get their water for free because they have a well. However, they pay for the electricity that is used to operate the well's pump. Plus, they pay for the means to purify the water from the well. |
|
|
|
I didn't know Friedman was a union man.
My uncle gets his water from an under ground spring. No pump and no purifying. |

Detroit is hurting and yet water is indeed not free. I imagine that there will be some reckoning to provide assistance for that particular utility...perhaps some of the resources that go to care for illegals can provide emergency assistance to Detroit?
but what is scary is the electric is prolly next. Detroit is a ghost town. |
