The House

Paint peeled
from the bare walls
as if it had been ages
since life had filled any of the rooms
it was cold
and lonely too
as if time
had made the decision to abandon
this aging place

Each window
in each time forgotten room
was being tattered
by a driving rain
that refused to offer even a glimpse of light

The empty
lifeless echoes
of the years gone
melded the faded memories
into the sorrows of a broken heart
the house
long since a home
remained
waiting
for someone to love its possibilities again
