You forgot the apostrophe. Fo' shizzle, my nizzle. Sometimes, the apostrophe is the crux of the biscuit. |

In both the forums and the personal messages we receive Does it annoy you? Or do you not care.....  Does it affect/effect your opinion of the author?  Opinions/thoughts...............  it does not leave the best impression. reading and writing are pretty basic skills. but I don;t use it to sort friends....intimate partner maybe, but not a friend |

Memorized this one for my hotel lobby bar... (phonetically) Bitte zwei bier, undt zwei Jagermeister. Because it took 11 minutes to draw a single glass of beer (I timed it), I would order two, and two Jagers, since they were poured cold and quick. I'd go have a shower, dress for the evening, come back to the bar and my first beer was waiting for me, the 2nd almost poured, and I'd order my 3rd, since the first was down in about 4 swallows, the 2nd in my hand in mere moments and about the time I was ready for dinner, my 3rd would arrive. It only took a couple of days to figure out how I needed to conform to German rules. I do however speak fluent Spanish, and am fairly adept at French (my latest learning adventure). I am not a typical American, in that I will try to speak the native language of the country I'm visiting, no matter how bad I butcher it, I will keep trying. This usually leads to a lot of laughs. The locals seem to appreciate an earnest effort. I take a little notebook with me, and will sketch what I want when my vocabulary fails me. This usually leads to even more laughter. It depends upon the extent. There are some times when obvious typos happen by pressing the wrong keys and there are other times when commonly mistaken words like there and their are used incorrectly, but if it is the REGULAR habit for someone to have many misspelled words when they post, it does cause me to think they didn't receive a very adequate education or that English is not their first language. |

If the mistakes are glaring and excessive, yes, it makes them look dumb.

TO be honest any American who has a problem with other peoples English, I would ask them to ask themselves, "how could I have been taught English when I spell words differently" (we could make a list of these words) And then accept the fact that you have not been taught English and so do not speak English, you have been taught American and so you speak American does that give you the right to preach about other people's English, I don't think it does, it's a little hypocritical id say HaHaHa

Who cares??? as long you know what you're trying to say/said...do you know what I mean? If somebody else's has a problem with "That" is their problem not mine...so I'm not going to worry about it. Done!!! Es verdad. Ingles esta mi primero idioma, pero tengo problemas cuando necessito usar una palabra nuevo a mio. sorry that just bugs me Anyway back to the question, No i do not think it makes people look dumb, but what it does do is, show you that they may have some sort of problem, being dyslexic could be one of them, so what type of person would i be if i were to judge someone on some Text that has little importance then actual conversation, yeah it could be off putting but if you say your not judgemental, you'll not let things like that bother you and continue with the trying to understand that person. you only let yourself down by judging others.
does it not look like to the other person that you could be the dumb one for not understanding simple text with/without grammar or correct spelling. Is Stephen Hawking dumb because he cant pick up a pen and write NO Is Enstine dumb because he apparently flunked maths as funny as it sound NO and he didnt flunk math anyway. Just because someone can not do something to other peoples standards, does not mean they are dumb. and in all honesty its a dumb Question. |

Mistakes happen. I get that. But I am not a fan of laziness.
It is: you not u are not r you're not u r the not da So on and so forth. If someone cannot make an effort to type out a word, why would I make an effort to respond? Or so, that is how I see it. |

Judging someone's intelligence on rather they can spell or not is just a sad notion. Imagine if everyone judged rather you were intelligent or not on how much scientific information you knew or how fast you could solve a mathematical equation or if you could solve it at all. I scored a 6 in spelling on the ACT and a 36 in mathematics. So, does that make me a dumb person? By the way my IQ score is 168 and I cannot spell worth a crap.

I too am a bad speller but Firefox has spell correction.
There are two types of written text bozos. The first tries to used cell phone abbreviated text-speech in a written forum like Mingle2. That's dumb. The second uses standard English but does it so poorly that it looks like a second language (maybe it is). That is actually dumber. If you want folks to take you seriously, take the time to provide a clearly written statement. If English isn't your primary language, make that clear too so you don't look like a dummy. BTW, if I was wanting to learn English, Mingle2 would be a great place to make friends and practice! |

There is a time and place for proper writing and formal rules of grammar.
We are here enjoying ourselves and having fun. There is not a big need for proper spelling or grammar so long as we can get our point across. |
