Learned from a doc, Vitamin B-1; I take 500 mg during mosquito season, seldom get bit, only draw back, when sweating or on occasion smell or get taste of B-1/baby vitamins.

Actually, I think I heard that years ago. I can't remember how well it worked.

I am not sure how well it works in the "swarm" conditions that exist now. I think I'll put a can of "deep wood's off" in the car.

I lived on a lake, surrounded by a state park, shared this info with neighbors & they could not believe the results. Slowly most of the 80 homes around me were doing the same. I am a big guy, smaller people cut the amount in half. F Y I.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I really don't like spraying "Deet" all over me!

Here's some stuff I found on the net.

"A study back in the 1960s indicated that taking vitamin B1 (thiamine) may be effective in discouraging mosquitoes from biting. However, studies since then have been inconclusive.18 The theory is, taking more vitamin B1 than your body requires causes the excess to be excreted through your urine, skin, and sweat. Vitamin B1 produces a skin odor that female mosquitoes seem to find offensive.

This vitamin is water-soluble, and there is no danger of toxicity—even at high doses—so it is a safe measure to try. Dr. Janet Starr Hull recommends taking one vitamin B1 tablet a day from April through October, and then adding 100 mg of B1 to a B100 Complex daily during the mosquito season to make you less attractive to mosquitoes. You may also want to forgo bananas during mosquito season, as something about how they are metabolized appears attract mosquitoes. Research also suggests that regularly consuming garlic or garlic capsules may help protect against both mosquito and tick bites."

The rivers are over the banks. The dams are overflowing. People are being washed downstream.

NOW ... huge clouds enter Texas for more rain and severe weather.

Who needs hurricanes? ohwell

No **** all the lakes are closed around here, due to all the rain... It has stopped just a little bit ago, but more is on it's way..

Joe how are you doing at your house? Hope all is staying far enough away from y'all...

I built on the high end of the airport so I don't flood even when the other end of the runway is under a foot of water. Water is flowing over the dirt road at the far end of the runway so we aren't getting mail (the mailman to too lazy to drive around to the other end of the runway). Hundreds of cars are pulled over to the side of the road where they promptly went into the ditch and are now under about five feet of water. Several of the Houston freeways went completely under water.

I have seen it much worse around here and if the big rains hit today again, it might get that way. I'll be on high ground no matter what.

(but I went out last night and got a bucket of fried chicken just in case!!!!)

My daughter is having a pool put in right in the middle of all this stuff. Of course it is at a stand still..

Ortho Home Defense is a good, safe long lasting, pest killer. Where dry, spray on house, concrete, etc. Will kill till it is washed off & will not bother pets.

forecast is for mostly sunny all week, with highs in the 90's. canyon lake is at 100% capacity, so summer water sports at the lake and guadalupe river should be nice
