Without sounding like a misery guts, I prefer to be spontaneous, than do a coffee date. I think it doesn't help, when you've seen it done lots in commercial or movies. It would be too predictable for me, and would make it feel more like an interview.

Meeting for coffee on a day like today, 94 degrees, seems crazy. How about an ice cream or perhaps a Dairy Queen "Blizzard" instead?

I hear ya ;). It's been so hot, that I've only been having icy drinks for breakfast. Instead of my usual tea or coffee. They're more refreshing. Can hardly eat. Plus, the ice in the drinks will be doing my throat some good, I reckon.

I always do a short 'meet-n-greet' first, be it coffee, tea, soft drink or just a walk in the park. I also prefer to meet quickly, if we make it past the first 2-3 e-mails and a phone call, then face-to-face is the only way to go.

Coffee can always turn into dinner if all is going well. Planning a short meeting in a casual setting doesn't mean it has to end there but most of us (men and women) know when it's simply not a good fit and we know it in pretty short order.

Starbucks will be the perfect place for a coffee date.
