Our family discoved mock apple pie made with green tomatoes. You have to peel the skins first. Add a little more corn starch or flour due to the juiciness of them.

Can ripen green tomatoes slowly on a basement or crawl space floor where cool, into the fall and early winter. Place green tomatoes on top of newspaper and covered with newspaper as well. Check and roll often. bigsmile

I had bacon for supper. pitchfork

I can't stand the chilli and kidney beans in chilli.

Sting, sounds like you're making a voodoo chilli there. Now if we were talking gumbo, I'd be all over it.

Ive never done the fried green tomatoes thing...maybe ill try that

the pie...theres no apple in it then? do green tomatoes taste like apples? or is it the cinnamon that does the trickery and the tomatoes act like apples in texture? curious.

thanks for the idears!

It's the cinnamon and sugar that does the taste trickery. It's just another way to use up xtra green tomatoes.

My mom made some green tomato sweet relish too.

before my separation.. my ex and I used to host Thanksgiving at our place... 27 maybe sometimes 30 . dinner guest.... we could fit 17.. guests around the dining room table... it comfortably seats 12 normally.... the remaining guests mostly children would eat in the sitting room.. are the home theater room.... the meal my wife and I would prepare... was traditional... turkey ham mashed potatoes.. sweet potatoes. peas and corn.. cabbage rolls and meatballs.... a salmon.. two or three different varieties of stuffing.... cornmeal pie.... a garden salad.... lots of gravy... I am sure I am forgetting one or two dishes.......
enough food to feed a small army basically..... but this year I'm taking the boys to the grandparents..... probably won't be the same....hmm.. divorce and separation can be good.... but sometimes. you miss the small things....

trying to think of some junior high dick joke here but not happening...nothing more engrained in our hearts and mind than the times we spend with our families, our loved ones...how quickly we can think of a holiday and be flooded with emotions about people who have gone and the ones we just don't see enough of anymore...going home for thanksgiving next month, first time back home in 2 years...I really need that feeling of family and love that only our families can give...
