Because with the internet as a tool, you can be anyone you want to be. Fake, for some, is better than the reality.

as in people that can't be themselves or portraying themselves as someone else? the world is full of both types of people. I like who I am. I don't want to be anyone else. but some people don't feel secure enough to be who they really are. people are judgemental and they allow that to effect them in order to fit in. I'd rather not fit in if it means having to put on an act.

Another reason is that they don't like who they are so they put on a false persona.
