I was 18 and she was gonna turn 18 in a month. I believe that's about the right age if you wanna put a number on it. To be honest, it's more of a maturity thing than an age thing. I agree that teens seem to be losing/giving it away younger and younger.

Its only the right age if you feel its the right age. You can't give an age that's right because its all down to the individual. I was 18 when I lost mine. And I still think I was to young. But peer pressure and misguided trust were the reasons for me losing it
