Hey Blondey, Funky, red, David and panchovanilla!
So theres 7 "grandaddy" Principles of Traning. The Law of Individual Differences: We all have different abilities, bodies and weaknesses, and we all respond differently (to a degree) to any given system of training. These differences should be taken into consideration when designing your training program. The Overcompensation Principle: Mother Nature overcompensates for training stress by giving you bigger and stronger muscles. The Overload Principle: To make Mother Nature overcompensate, you must stress your muscles beyond what they're already used to. The SAID Principle: The acronym for "Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands." Each organ and organelle responds to a different form of stress. The Use/Disuse Principle: "Use it or lose it" means that your muscles hypertrophy with use and atrophy with disuse. The GAS Principle: The acronym for General Adaptation Syndrome, this law states that there must be a period of low intensity training or complete rest following periods of high intensity training. The Specificity Principle: You'll get stronger at squats by doing squats as opposed to leg presses, and you'll get greater endurance for the marathon by running long distances than you will by (say) cycling long distances. Now it should be clear |

Depends what you are trying to achieve .. If you want muscle mass then free weights are a way to achieve that . If you want sculpting and definition then machines are a powerful adjuvant . Incorrect answer. Both free weights and machines can build mass, increase strength, increase explosive power, tone/sculpt/define muscles, correct imbalances. It is the tempo, set range and rep range that determines what results you achieve from lifting. Free weights work secondary muscles in the lift in addition to the ones being focused on, while machines tend to isolate the majority of the weight onto the muscle being worked. |

Yes but amongst the two types its always better to use free weights & stick to the basics & compound movements |

Only wimps use machines. Real men use free weights. I have to use some machines for my shoulders.... Ya they have been tore up so now its about range of motion..... I need to be able to play with my grandkids..... But otherwise its free weights |

if u lift u lift, free weights or machines or a combo. increase weight and reps and get results. proper diet, switching up workouts etc. but yes the meatheads will laugh at the machines I actually don't use em...free weights simply offer more variety and range

only someone, who has "just "started fitness / bb, just with that very new enthusiasm would make such a comment. a person really involved in sports for a long time would know the differences and helps of them both and wouldnt make such a comment :)
