i don't know how it is with anyone else so i thought i'd ask. i know how
my taste in music is and i find it to be especially true with rap. when
an artist releases an album and they put the first(first couple)songs on
the radio i always seem to like the ones that don't get airtime better.
i think it's because i don't really get into too many of the dance or
pop sounding rap songs. some example would be JAY Z,birdman, young
jeezy, etc. when i finally got a chance to listen to the songs that
didn't get airplay i found that i liked the sound and feel of the cd a
whole lot more than the feel of the radio released songs.

That is so true. I often find that other songs on the album are better,
and often are more true to the bands sound. The manager will pressure
them to have a hit, so they will write one to get played and the rest
will be the true artist.

As I understand it, it is the Recording Label executives and their
research and development collaborative teams that listen to the
individual songs, make their recommendations on what will "touch" the
mainstream of that genre, and they focus on that single. What touches
the most people will sell the most recordings.

It's all about the "Mighty Dollar".

Alice Cooper's music is a prime example..there's only a few tunes they
play on the radio, but the rest of his music is actually better than his
somgs that get air time

I have a close friend that worked for Billboard Magazine for a few years
and she told me that they generally choose the single based on
"market"...so I might hear one song, while the east coast may hear
something else. And, (did you know) radio stations are barred from
playing "unreleased" songs on newer albums? They have to get special
permission from the recording label...SUCH BULLSHIT!
