if you can hear or see steam escaping, then you have a leak. glad you made it. barring a leak,it sounds like you may just have let it get low, i hope that's all that it is.  Should I check it now? Or wait? I never knew you had to put fluid in that

consult your owners manual.
do NOT open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. that is extremely dangerous. the steam you'll see and/or hear, in that big ol' engine compartment thingy. any is bad. you may add the appropriate mixture of coolant for your vehicle in the coolant overflow tank. that'd be the one marked 'coolant', ironically enough. |

. if you have a newer driveway.
and I don't know.. . but you might want to slide some cardboard.. underneath the front of your car.. just to keep. spots of your driveway.. and I'm glad and relieved to hear you made it home.. tomorrow take the radiator cap off fill it up with antifreeze.. not all the way... run it for a couple minutes.. shut it off and take a look.. underneath the front.. . see if anything is dripping .. then open the hood.. and see if it's coming from the hoses. are you'r radiator itself.. or it could be the water pump.. . enjoy your dinner.. keep us posted. . it would be interesting to hear what happens.. I know she makes mechanics . sound so sexy though..

you're supposed to leave it on!  it's bad for your engine to run hot. by running the heater you are siphoning that deadly heat off the engine. have you at least checked to make sure that you don't have a leak and aren't losing coolant? No..not sure how.. but will check fluids.the check engine light did not come on until yesterday starting only getting hot today when I left work Ran heater all the way..kept it in normal enough ranges. running the heater is the only thing that helped me get home because every time I cut the heater off it went back up in the hot range Can't thank you enough Made it to driveway..going to let it cool Phone is running hot too..got a solution for that  Take it to the shop have them check the thermostat.... May be time to replace it, that is what was wrong with mine when it was doing the same thing...
