Good day?

Commuter rail was 25 minutes late this morning

And, I understand cost containment, but today's work battle floored me.

An ENT surgeon with 25 YEARS of experience exams an 18 month old child. The child has enormous tonsils and adenoids. They parents have brought in a film they took on their phone of the child sleeping. In the film, the child is having obvious episodes of sleep apnea. They have taken the film, because the child could not complete a formal sleep study in the lab, or at home

The insurance reviewer (his specialty is gastroenterology) denies the surgery because no formal sleep study was done.

How is it cost effective to perform a test that isn't necessary for diagnosis? How is it cost effective for a physician who has never examined, or even met a patient to make a decision?

For that matter, how is it cost effective to have me and ten other people employed to advocate for these poor patients?

Okay, rant over. Thanks for listening.

And, yes, I did get the surgery approved

Didja shoplift sumpin good? bigsmile

I think I was supposed to shoplift some kitchen stuff. I stole a bowl but bought something so it would not be obvious. When I got home I saw that they gypped me on change and I had the wrong item. Crime does not pay!

It's supposed to rain tonight so maybe some of this pollen will be washed away.
