The term "rule of thumb" comes from an old law that said that you couldn't beat your wife with a stick that was thicker than your thumb. These days with feminism and women getting too big for their boots there are a lot of disfunctional relationships and a high divorce rate. Now, I think that beating women is wrong but I think that it might be a good idea if we brought back something like the rule of thumb. I could have a little knife to threaten them with, for instance.
