Topic: Have we forgotten how to have human interaction? Hmm. food f | |

So I've been looking at forum posts and checking out profiles that catch my attention (yes, I'm curious by nature). And I've noticed that many of us have commonality in looking for someone to spend time with. It made me wonder, have we forgotten how to interact with real people?

To a certain extent I would have to agree to that.As you get older and bills kick in and work and family consume most of the hours in your life the internet is so much easier than going out when you have to work in the morning, however It should not replace human interaction because that's what its all about to me. I certainly haven't. I know when to put the internet away. I realize my family and offline friends will give me what no internet interaction ever can. You know what makes me cringe about internet dating? It's that some idiots say things to you, when flirting, that they never dare say to somone in a bar. But those kinds will never win me over anyway, because of their lack of manners, and their low standards. I just sit back and laugh at how immature they look. I'm glad people aren't all the same at this rate ;)

I am real, and I do have a life besides being on Mingle2. I use Mingle as a way to kill time when I'm bored or there's nothing entertaining to me on the Tele.

I'm a sociable person but I only have one close friend and yeah, I've been using the internet as a substitute for a real social life. The dating sites have helped me to get out and meet people again though.

Well...We're still interacting with other people.
Just like the phone, only in text. |

I see it as a greater opportunity.
I talked more with my long-distance mate when we were apart (7-8 times daily on the phone) than now when we are together. The internet is a huge tool, made to order. I think it can only enhance a relationship. |

And I've noticed that many of us have commonality in looking for someone to spend time with. It made me wonder, have we forgotten how to interact with real people? This is a great topic so I'm bumping it. I think the interweb's brought a part of the human 'need' that maybe we weren't aware of simply because it had never been exercised until now; that being the need for social intercourse w/o the actual physical interactions. Folks today can share thoughts, ideas and opinions with the ability to end the day and return to their absolute privacy with the flip of a switch. As a student, I get plenty of social intecourse but most of it's with youngers; it's nice to listen to others of my (relative) age group w/o having any real attachments to those I might participate or kibbutz with. Yet when I feel the need, I can just shut it down and get back to my studies or other things. There's a chance that others appreciate being able to have contacts in other countries and or in each of our respective nations w/o feeling an obligation to meet in person. Meeting of the minds is just as relevant as actually physically making a contact. Maybe I'm just weird. :) |

Whozyrdaddy, that was very well put. It helps me see my original question in a different perspective.
