"The Dating Scam You Have To Hear To Believe"

This is kind of different. Agents would meet people and get into seemingly serious relationships, talk people into buying a house at 30-40% mark up to the market value and then leave them with a high amount of debt.

Unfortunately, love can make people turn stupid and vulnerable.

That is very true. Sad but true.

I'm kind of surprised this didn't get more replies. But ah well.

As a matter of principle, I won't go into debt on anything; by working, saving, and doing without, my husband and I were able to put 100% down on a nice small farm house, originally built in the '20's, with land in just under Five Years.

We won't go into debt for any reason as you pay more for what you're buying; we save until we have enough to buy outright.

and, thus by being married, you avoided the dating scam which was the topic?

Well, love isn't what caused the scam victims to be victims. Instead, it was desperation to have a significant other. Had the victims simply insisted on getting married first before investing in a house, then the scam would have fallen apart.

Have you any fact or facts to back up your claim?

I listened to that video, and there is no indication that the victims knew the Agents very well before agreeing to live with them. The Agents were seeking people who were desperate for marriage, and those victims were willing to live with the Agents before getting married. Had the victims said, "No living together until after marriage", then the Agents wouldn't have been able to do what they did.

My counter argument is that even if the agents married them. It doesn't mean they would have stay with them. Obviously they didn't have a problem with getting people to believe they were loved enough to get them to buy a house at a crazy mark up. I doubt they would have a problem with leaving them with false documents for a fake marriage or what ever they had to do to get the sale.

And that would put you into a very small percentage in this, the immediate gratification age.

Going into debt is dumb; better to save up and pay cash for everything.

Even for a house, it doesn't take that long to buy one outright if you work extra jobs, do without and put your money into the bank; better to pay for it in full in five years than work 20+ years paying it off.

It doesn't have to take 20 years to pay it off. It can be done quicker if you pay more on the loan.
