what does everyone think of the news about the patriots videotaping the jets defensive signals on sunday?

in the so called high stakes game of profootball does anyone think this isn't cheating?

Well, i think it is cheating, besides, the pat's are a good football team as it is, they shouldn't have to resort to that.

there has been speculation for years that new england likes to spy on other teams. nothing ever proven and i'm sure they weren't the only one but it just seems odd to me that any pro team would do it let alone one of the better teams.

Eh? Isn't that part of what scouting is? Trying to figure out what the other team is going to do and how they do it? They had a chance to figure those things out, put it in a format they could go back to easily when they play them again, and they took it. Professional baseball teams look to steal the signs from the other team. Is that cheating, as well? I see those two things as equal, as even if they don't video record it, they could still write down the signs.

well i think its only cheating if the coach him self actually looked at the tapes during the game i mean any proof of that an sorry have to admit i'm not a football fan but im an new england fan :)

i don't consider it scouting because they aren't scouting the defense they are stealing the defensive signals so that they don't have to scout as much. if you have their defensive signals don't you think it's easier to defend the play(you know what play they called). i see baseball teams stealing signs as the same way though. not only cheating but bad sportsmanship as well.

sorry bout that i meant, you know what they will do on defense so that you get an unfair advantage of calling your offensive play.

Just heard on ESPN and NBC that the commissioner has reached the conclusion that the Patriots cheated. So what is Kraft's next step. The commish can take away a bunch of future draft picks plus other unspecified actions. Kraft has to undertake some sort of damage control to head off the comissioner. Does he fire the coaching staff? Offer to forfeit the games with the Jets this year? I don't think a public apology will do. Thoughts on this?

look, i play football for a semi pro team, and could go pro in the next year, and i cant stand some of the things that go on. everyone is getting paid to make bad calls in judgement it seems. on every level. nothing is safe from cheats

i think they will get away with the loss of draft picks. i don't see anyone forfeiting any games. the video guy might get fired but not the coaches.

i hope you make it to your goal thumper but the NFL is essentially big business and politics comes with the gig. hopefully the league does a good job of keeping it in check.

i understand that there is an extreme amount of pressure to win but i don't think cheating is the answer.

I suspect that the video guy...allegedly a member of the Pats scouting group...is already toast. Do you think Kraft will just give up the picks? You know he will do something to salvage the teams rep, as best he can

I can see the headlines tomrrow...Ex superbowl champs Patriots cheated to win...after the basketball ref cheating thing...this might replace Mike Vick on the headlines. I say Kraft has to take some sort of drastic action to try to protect the teams rep...they got busted last year at Green Bay doing the same thing...only the guy managed to get rid of the video before security got it...sounds real bad

i've heard it about the pats before too. just my opinion but i really don't see kraft doing anything. this hasn't had much coverage at all and knowing the kind of business man he is i think he probably figures that he can get away with it fairly easily since it hasn't had much coverage.

with the way they win too that pick or picks won't really amount to much.

Haha, I always knew the Pats aren't as good as they were supposed to be. No wonder they're able to win so many games.

They've been doing this for at least last year as well (several teams raised suspicions), and there's no doubt they did it in the playoffs last year.

the allegations go back more than last year. i wonder if that's how belichek got his reputation as being a mastermind. doesn't take as much mastery to steal their calls.lol

They were playin a home game, if they really wanted to steal the defensive signals, why video tape? Wouldn't it be easier just to run another line from the coaches headset to their coaching booth in the stands. I mean all you'd need to do that is about 20 feet of wire or a hidden mike.

Most coaches cover their mouths when calling plays anyway, so I don't see the point. Especially considering you can see most play calls on the jumbo screen at either end zone.

Probably just another case of New Yorkers crying about there loosing franchises.

they confiscated the camera with the footage on it and i think the commissioner has already made a decision on it.

On the Jim Rome show yesterday, Rome said that they were caught doing it against the Green Bay Packers last season. The Packers caught someone videotaping, and threw him out.
