150 years, that's nothing for a stepper. I'm in for the long haul.

Hiya Shawnee, When I said Africa might be half Indian, I meant Asian Indian actually. There a billion or so of those folks around and they are looking for places to expand. Same with the Chinese, who are already populating Africa more and more. But if you guys want to take a bite out of the Big Africa, go for it. Personally by then I'll be limiting my activities to pinching whichever women are in range.

It’s like this….If our own government doesn’t get us and the terrorist don’t get us the environment will.

In 100 years this won’t be the world we know but a 100 years ago, this world today was nothing they dreamed of either ….

Who believes the U.S. will still be 'alive and well' 100 years from now? Think about it guys and give me some feedback on this subject and vent your feelings on nature, weather, war....Bush?

*************************************************************

What is the US? The people? The land? The politics? or all?

In truth and I mean no disrespect to any people...I certainly hope this political US will be a murmured, mummbled, embarrassed comment made out of earshot.

The land, I would hope will hold some of it's last vestigages of pristine countryside, although I am not so optimistic..and through collective fault of the global population.

The people? Your children and grandchildren as the culture of the US? I hope so, I hope that they evolve with a higher consciousness, and awareness of their land, their people, and the world at large...and have a more generous outlook towards other cultures.

I suspect every country will look very different in 100 years..whether their cultures/ mindset/politics of today are alive and well...I hope not.

Ouch, Hey we're doing the best we can here. I think politics follows the people only after about 20 years. That's how long it takes to get a season of the incumbents out of office.

In some ways that might be better than swinging wildly like a schizophrenic in a storm.

Think about where we were 100 years ago:

Men and women married at 12-14
Men and women were 'old' at 40-45
Men and women died at 45-50 if they were lucky

There were no cars (very few)
There were no TVs
There were no microwaves
There were no refrigerators to keep food cold
There was no air conditioning
There were no anti perspirants-Everybody had bad BOnoway

Most of all there was no internet and no JSH

Give thanks for the innovations of the past that have made the future what it is and look to the future for what it might be...

laugh laugh Philosopher are you implying that our Prime minister is schitzophenic???

I would agree whole heartedly..

and please, although my post appears critical and extremely harsh...I only wish for a gentler world, for all...however, the original question was posed for the US..

For this country to survive another 100 years it needs to toughen up again. We've gotten so soft and politically correct because we dont want to hurt anyones feelings that we're just giving everything away. Have you ever been to Ellis Island and read what THOSE people had to go through to come into this country? I have and let me tell you, they were one tough bunch. If they showed any weakness they were sent back, if they couldnt speak basic English they were sent back and if they couldnt show that they could support themselves and have a trade or get a job they were sent back. After weeks on a ship if they even hesitated the slightest bit climbing the stairs to the 2nd floor... again sent back. Now we dont do anything about anyone coming in either and how fair is that to people that work hard to get permission to come here? How fair is it that we have politicians that want to give our money away to those that havent paid a dime into it? I say hey you rich politician, celebrity, whatever... you want to raise thousands or even millions how about giving up some of YOUR money? We need to get back to good ol American values, courage and beliefs and then and only then will we still have an "America" for our grandchildren and so forth. It may not be a popular opinion but its mine and I have the courage to say it.

Oh as for the weather, war and Bush? Every place will be warmer (more concrete), war... its hard to say but as long as there isnt a draft the military personnel we have now enlisted because they felt it was the right thing to do and should be supported, and Bush???? Well he's older than me so he'll be dead too (as will I) so you won't have to worry about that one. laugh

My advice to my children is for them to move south of the equator within the 20 years…..I have gone out my way to teach them the truth of about the US. Its principles are true, the foundation is solid and inalienable rights are %100 correct. But unfortunately over the last 100 years it has all gone to crap due to corruption by our own government, by the gluttony of our citizens and because the weak hearted Americans are willing to give their freedom away for the chance to watch American Idol. sad sad sad sad sad

it may not be a popular opinion phxlilly but it is yours and i agree with you. if america falls it won't be because of a terrorist attack or enemy invasion it will be because of our own doing. too much of our society has gone soft, lost their common sense and allows the government to take advantage of them.

America, the continent will still be here in 100 year. The United States will be gone by 2075. As with all empires of old, we got lazy, fat and only concerned with our immediate pleasure. This is why Rome fell, this is why Britan is not an Empire any more, and this is what started the fall of Greece.
We as Americans don't like critisism, we like to think the rest of the world looks up to us and we are content to let other nations make all of our products for us. The U.S. will go through a terrible revolt when the oil runs out. It drives our energy (both gas and electric), it is in all that plastic crap we have to own (see your keyboard), and we have no plan for when it runs out. By best estimates that will be in 35 to 40 years, so if you think this isn't your problem, guess again. So do I care about your children (I have none), no. But I'd like to save my own ass.

Hi Jess,
No I'm not saying anything about your prime minister. Actually I was thinking of Ron Paul and his ilk at the time I said it, but I don't actually think he is schizophrenic either.

I think Australia is wonderful.

The media is driven on the wind and politicians try to follow, but fortunately the law process is so complicated and cumbersome that the media is limited in its effect, unless of course they take the moral high ground on some issue in order to crush the rights of poor people. For example when the media got down on drinking and driving, bad bad bad evil hateful people who drink, hell hell and damnation, like those who want to have a beer on the way home from work in their car, it was all over but the crying. Trial lawyers sucked up cash and alcohol test device companies soaked up the rest. Moral high ground is no nice.

Anybody like that line? Ha ha. I don't drink.

Well Philosopher what your really talking about there is the over concern everyone has for children. I am so sick of the phrase "what about the children." I say what about us adults, you know the ones that survived childhood without safety gear? If a child breaks a bone, good, thats how you learn. And in America in particular, somewhere we decided everyone has a right to have no pain whatsoever. Bad things happen, no matter how prepared you are. So this kinda goes back to phxlilly's stop whining thing.

RoamingOrator, I am curious....when you drive, do you have any thought as to the destination, or is your focus only on the stretch of road, directly in front of you?

I genuinely am curious to better understand your thoughts.

Alive and well in 100 years?

All you have to do is look back at history ...

By 1921, the British Empire held sway over a population of about 458 million people, approximately one-quarter of the world's population. It covered about 36.6 million km² (14.2 million square miles), about a quarter of Earth's total land area.
Now? Nothing. A country of 60 million people.
--------
Holy Roman Empire in 1061 = 86 million
Now = 34,000 (Lichtenstein)
----
Aztecs, Incas, Romans, Vikings ...

There are plenty of examples of empirical states that rise and fall.

In 100 years, there may be something going on that may not be what we expect.

After all who would have thought a small island could have run a quarter of the world?

Nothing is forever.

My personal opinion is that China will be the next ruler of the planet ...

China has the largest growing economy
It has the largest land army
The largest population
It is in the centre of the most populous region on the planet.
All it has to do is extend a finger here and BAM! There are the oil fields in the South China Sea and then the Japanese get the hump because they then have to double their fuel bills.
The blockade starts up and no one gets through.
The US cannot cover the Middle East and the Far East too.
Its a scary scenario but very, very real.

The Russians dont get involved because they have control of the gas pipelines to Europe ...
