The Honorable, Governor George C. Wallace's School House Door Speech


On June 11, 1963, Alabama's Governor George Wallace came to national prominence when he kept a campaign pledge to stand in the schoolhouse door to block integration of Alabama public schools. Governor Wallace read this proclamation when he first stood in the door-way to block the attempt of two black students, Vivian Malone and James Hood, to register at the University of Alabama. President John F. Kennedy federalized the Alabama National Guard, and ordered its units to the university campus. Wallace then stepped aside and returned to Montgomery allowing the students to enter.

The only time in US history militarized to protect negro interests.

Had it not been for Wallaces actions, the constitutionality of uprooting kids from their schools and forcing them to mix would more likely been fiercely challenged.

After that, none would touch it for fear of being labeled racist and thought to be an associate of Mr Wallace.

IMO, he has a big spot due him in the so-called NAACP month.

Not to take the lime-lite away from Mr Wallace but,Bill Clinton was said to have uplifted many black-amercan skirts.
