Yes, it can happen both ways I suppose...But the real story is the love that hits you when you least expect it....In a way, it's like a test....You're not looking, certainly not expecting, and not at all prepared, then WHAM, it hits you and you're crazy stupid mad about someone that just happened by or reappeared for some reason and tipped his hat to you ... The test?....How you handle it of course....The reason?....When it hits you "out of the blue" it usually means changing and rearranging your whole world just to accommodate it and you do this without giving it a second thought!

You may not know it but when you are "looking" you may try too hard or give the scent of desperation. If you are not "looking", you may be more relaxed and with less "guard" up.

People tend to like the real "you" better than the "you" on the hunt.

Instead of looking for true love...spend time on becoming the best that you can be. And, be happy with yourself. If you can't stand your own company, how can you expect anyone else to?

For your assertion to be vindicated that the effort is fruitless, you would need further research to compare how many people who have not joined these sights have found true love without looking for it, would it not? How can you truly call this a "vindication"?

IMHO People who think that a relationship is just going to fall out of the sky and find you is the ultimate in narcissism.

If you want to meet someone and have a relationship you have to actually be open and welcoming towards the general version of what you want and then "winnow the wheat" until you find a fit that is good. There are no perfect matches, soul mates, or someone made just for you. People are imperfect, flawed, and even sometimes just a down right pain in the well you get the idea.

But there are many people with time, and effort, and allowing yourself to invest in developing love you can find great happiness and satisfaction and love with.

I tend to think that changes over the years and it is important to find someone who is most likely to flex and grow in in the same general direction as you are or the love will eventually wilt and die but sometimes traveling the unexpected journey is the greatest adventure.
