...resilience, trust in myself, loyalty, endurance, how to be a mother, how to be self sufficient and independent rather than co-dependent, that material things mean nothing, but a smile, and a shared laugh lasts in our memory albums forever..

It was not all bad...or I would have been a fool to have been with him for 18 years...I have much to thank him for...we grew up together...17 to 35, and for a lot of that time was my best mate.

I have learned how to speak up for myself. I use to be very quiet and never say anything in a relationship....but my ex taught me that IF I didn't speak up, I would get walked all over.

Actually I didn't learn that from him, but I learned it after being with him. All I really learned from him is how much and how long someone can drink without dying, and that your best friend can turn into a complete stranger because of it.
