I think that it's a mistake to suppose that because you can't find anybody in your own town you might do better elsewhere, where you would be adding even more difficulties to it.

I've been as bad as anybody in the past for getting impractical unrealistic (desperate?) ideas about my chances of making it work with women in other countries and it is possible to build good friendships on the internet. Nevertheless, one thing that I've finally realised this year is that it's not really enough to just like somebody, or have a crush on them and you need to have stuff in common. I remember saying to my last girlfriend that at least she was an Edinburgh girl. It isn't just the traveling. It's the culture. Last year I dated a girl from Glasgow. That's only like an hour away on the train and I couldn't understand half of what she was going on about.

We could also say the same about your mob through in Edinburgh and all that ' ken ' patter Tawt?

I have joined several websites and even traveled to Britain several times ending in a fiasco of a marriage

,, Im not putting that type of work in to 'finding' love anymore,,

I don't know man. That girl that I was seeing wasn't posh and she even lived in a tower block and she didn't really use any of that old slang. I think that it's dying out here now.

But alright, it's not just the way that you talk but what you talk about. I've got an ex that talked like an American when I met her because she had spent a lot of years living over there. She was still an Edinburgh girl though.

I said to my Glasgow girlfriend that I would make an Edinburgh girl out of her yet. Well, that was never going to happen. Anyway, I'm just saying that it takes a long time to get to know somebody and if you come from the same sort of place and have the same sort of background it can be like you already know that person. Maybe some people are tired of the same old and I did actually have a thing going a few years ago with someone from another country. It was alright but we basically had nothing in common. I'm not saying that I would only date a girl from Edinburgh, or even that I've got all that much in common with most of the local women on here but for me anyway, it's sharing the same culture and where you're from can definetely play a part there. I did have some things in common with that girl from Glasgow, just like you would have stuff in common with an Edinburgh girl that was into football. It still wasn't enough though and it really didn't feel like I had known her for years when I met her.
