How did this come?
This lack of trust...
Spawn in many lies
Encrusted cemented dust

To a weary heart
Which once gave all
Now all broken
Behind a thickened wall.

Oh curse it now
Towering over me
Built up through the years
Blinded, I can not see.

The very wall
which keeps me safe
Keeps me from a dream
I can't escape

Sunlight looms
Branches call my name,
Afraid, I can not move,
Fear I'd be hurt again.

Life merely passes,
As I'm all locked in
Desolate, but protected,
There is no win.

Lonely, in silence,
Dreaming of what could be,
If I take down the wall,
Choose to just be me.

Questions arise
With all that is done,
Triggers from the past,
Take away the fun.

This lack of trust,
Embedded in my mind,
Will take someone who's strong,
It may take a long, long time.

There is no enjoyment,
Behind a wall so high,
For now it's what I need,
Brings a tear to my eye.

I didn't use to be
So fearful and afraid,
One day I saw sunshine,
Then someone pulled the shade.

So honesty is the best gift
You can give those you love,
Honesty is what matters
When push comes to shove.

I've come to notice many of us hold a hand over our hearts to protect it, but at the same time we keep ourselves in and away from our own dreams by doing so. I know this is a sore subject to many of us, but I think we can grow from expressing how we feel. Sometimes I don't think we realize that by putting up walls to protect ourselves from hurt, that we are at the same time keeping ourselves trapped because of a past hurt.
I, for one, am no different than most. They say to WRITE what ya know.... I wrote from my own heart.
