Mexico’s unemployment rate was 5.01 percent in October, down slightly from the 5.04 percent rate registered in the same month in 2012, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, or INEGI, said Monday.

The unemployment rate was 4.91 percent in October, without adjusting for seasonal factors, down 0.06 percent from the September level.

The unemployment rate for males was 4.98 percent, the same level as in October 2012, while the jobless rate for women was 5.04 percent, down 0.10 percent from the year-ago period.

The underemployment rate – defined as workers who wish to and are willing to work more hours but are unable to do so – was 8.9 percent in October, up from the 8.7 percent rate registered in the same month last year, the INEGI said.

The statistics agency, which considers a worker to be employed if they are older than 14 and work at least six hours a week in any job, said the labor force participation rate was 94.99 percent in the third quarter.

Some 59.46 percent of Mexico’s workers were employed in the informal sector of the economy last month, a figure that was below the 60.98 percent level registered in October 2012, the INEGI said.

About 41.8 percent of workers were employed in the service sector, while 19.8 percent were employed in retailing, 15.5 percent worked in manufacturing and 14.2 percent worked in agriculture.

Some 7.4 percent of workers were employed in construction and 0.80 percent worked in other sectors, such as mining, electric utilities and water and gas distribution, while 0.50 percent were employed in unspecified occupations.

The government expects Mexico’s economy to grow 1.3 percent this year, while private sector analysts are projecting growth of 1.2 percent.

The government began the year with a GDP growth target of 3.5 percent, with the figure being revised downward several times as the economy slowed.

Don't know if we can blame this one the HKIC {head kenyan in charge}.

Slick Willie gave us the gift of NAFTA. Works out pretty good for Mexico but not so much for us.

But no worries. The HKIC has his gift for the American people in the
pipeline. It's called the Trans Pacific Partnership. From what I understand it's going to be like NAFTA on steroids,

One of the "Big Lies" being told to the US public for decades is that "illegal workers take jobs Americans don't want and they are not affecting unemployment in the US".

Go to ANY construction site ( I go to them weekly). Try to find one that is not covered with illegals doing concrete finishing, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and every other trade. Many of the returning vets used to start their construction trades in the construction industry as well as many college students (like me). The industry has been taken over to save a buck and the cost to the US in unemployment is huge.

a lot work as a crew for cash too...by the job not by the hour...so of course to hold cost down contractors will hire them...there is no enforcement around here...they do work hard from what I've seen for there share of the cut...if there was enforcement, contractors would have to hire US...and demand would be dictating the wage...
