Here's one that I just can't figure out. Looking at a profile, and there's nothing in it except:

"If you want to know anything about me, you'll have to ask."

Isn't the whole purpose of having a profile page in the first place, so that you can put some stuff in there about yourself? I mean, how do I even KNOW if I want to know anything about you unless I have something up front to work with?

Look, I'm inherently pretty lazy in the first place, and, if I've taken the time to turn the computer on and go through all the folderol of getting to a site and clicking on enough buttons to GET to your damn profile in the first place, I expect some information already. Not "I refuse to tell you anything unless you e-mail me first," knowing full well that if you live within 897,000 miles of me, you'll never write back anyway.

Where's the payoff?

It's like if you went to the store for bread, and then there's a sign in the bread aisle saying "If you want bread, you have to go to our other store on the other side of town." What the hell is that about?

And I don't want to hear any crap about "Oh, it's not safe to put any information on the profile page because there are nutjobs and wackos who will try to find you." They CAN'T find you just from you telling your height or what your favorite candy bar is or if you can play the glockenspiel.

This is one of my Profile Pet Peeves.

I have others but if you want to know what they are, you'll have to ask me.

laugh Lex!

I agree and I disagree with what you wrote.

A guy (or gal) should know how to start a conversation on just the basics (your job and your hobbies) or even just with random stuff about his day or the weather. Even better if he notes something from posting with you on the threads.

In the end, I don't think the ad really matters at all. It's just like "real" life - you either click in emails/chats/posting/by phone/in person or you don't. ohwell

Bay, the trigger for this was that I saw a fairly large number of these profiles while I was doodling around with Mutual Match selections. And, in every case, these were people who I have nNEVER seen post anything on the forums.

So there is a complete lack of any context at all! A total information vacuum.

I have nothing to work with except the pic (which, in several cases, was clearly clipped from a magazine) and "if you want to know anything about me, you'll have to ask."

And so there is NO incentive whatsoever for me to do any followup on that....! A bogus pic, and they appear to be too lazy to even write a sentence or two. Makes me wonder about how serious they really are about the whole process....

I understand completely lex....I hate that too when people say ...if you want to know me, then ask etc.

I decided if I put everything on my profile......there would be nothing left to talk about after that....plus.........

I AM AN INTERNATIONAL WOMAN OF MYSTERY!!!!

Oh...in those cases I just think that the person was curious about the site and just created an account 'cuz it was free. So yea, I agree. I wouldn't bother with those at all. On the other hand, a novel in the profile isn't good either.
