I can really use some ideas to help me cope. Don't get me wrong, Scotland is beautiful and ppl are nice. But I'm getting more and more anxious when I'm out and about. I'm thinking this'll fade? whoa

Why don't U start with knowing the place U are at.....its history, bit about about scottish culture, food and some of the nice places in and around it.

It shall help U get U started and will help U make conversation with the Scots. U might get going with someone Your type.

regards

Many ppl underestimate the differences in culture, tend to think one western country is as good as the same as the next. But there are substantial differences, even between west European countries.
Only advice I can give is what Plat said: get into the history of Scotland, so you understand why the country, its habits and people are the way they are. Visit some places so you get the feel of it too.
Try to get clear what the differences are between you/your background and the Scottish.
Maybe you'll blend in after a while, maybe you won't. Only time can tell. Think it depends on why you moved, your own ability to adept (which is not per say something you can influence).
Good luck!

From New Orleans to Scotland is indeed a culture shock.

First, you are going to need a suitable winter wardrobe.
Scotland is a bit cooler than New Orleans.

Ty Crystal, actually I'm pretty familiar with Scottish culture and my father is a Scot. It's just different actually being here vs being educated about it. I'm excited, yet jittery if any that makes sense x

Heya Dodo, aye it's colder than a Witch's tit lol x I don't think I worded myself well in my post btw. I shouldn't have said "culture shock" because I'm familiar with the culture here but I'm still in awe. Its so different than reading or even being told about it. Scotland is BEAUTIFUL! I just have jitters.lol x
