CBS) NEW YORK - A 62-year-old man died Monday after being attacked by complete stranger last week in Union Square in New York City, CBS New York reports.
Jeffrey Babbitt slipped into a coma and had been declared brain dead at Bellevue Hospital after he was allegedly beat by 31-year-old Lashawn Marten last week. Babbitt, a retired train conductor, was reportedly walking in Union Square around 3 p.m. Wednesday when Marten allegedly shouted a racial comment and began attacking people. "He said 'the next white person who walks by I'm going to [expletive],'" one female witness told CBS New York. "His fist went in and the man's head bobbed and he hit the ground and you could hear his skull hitting the ground." http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-57602060-504083/jeffrey-babbitt-update-nyc-man-dies-after-random-possibly-racially-motivated-attack/ It's sad when any race attacks another over race, but it's despicable when the media outrage only happens when it's against a black person. Let's see how long it takes everyone to wear Jeffery Babbitt tee Shirts and march in the streets....not holding my breath |

give it a rest
'outrage' comes in when people believe there will be no justice this assailant was living in a homeless shelter for the mentally ill , yet I doubt he will not be fully persecuted and accountable for the death of the innocent man also |

You should be his lawyer |

He has a long arrest record of assaults and drugs. The ONLY mention is that he lived in a Jewish boarding home for the homeless and also houses psychiatric tenets. Not everyone homeless there is mentally challenged or disabled. Btw..this is second hate crime in a week...but hardly any media attention...here is the other: According to witness accounts of the apparently unconnected Friday incident, reported by the New York Daily News, a 31-year-old Queens, NY, man was riding the M60 bus around 127th St. between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive in Harlem. When the man, whose name has not been made public, walked to the front of the bus to approach the driver, another passenger an African American man apparently in his mid-to-late 30s confronted him. The other passenger called the Queens man a cracker. According to the Daily News account, the first passenger replied, Why are you in my face? The suspect then attacked, pushing the man to the floor of the bus and striking him in the face. The victim suffered a broken nose and possibly fractured eye socket. The suspect fled. Police released a surveillance photo of a man they say is the suspect, described as about 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, 35 to 40 years of age. The citys Hate Crimes Task Force is also investigating. |

Two, if there was history of mental illness, they'd take him to Bellevue for a psychological evaluation before putting him in general population. |

yeah, every crime hate or otherwise doesn't make then news except the news that people copy and paste it from,,,lol but those people involved are prosecuted as this person will be as well whenever all the details are in,, he will be held accountable or if an armed adult pursues an unarmed teen in a vehicle, and later on foot, after being SPECIFICALLY ADVISED NOT TO and then , after someone on the phone hears him confront said unarmed teen and a witness sees him tussling with unarmed teen,, unarmed teen is shot dead and said adult is allowed to WALK AWAY,,, ,,,,, many believe the adult should be held accountable for the death of a teen,, took protests to see it happened most believe this man will be held accountable for the death of this man I doubt it will take protesting to see it happen ,, I don't see the issue or the gripe,,, |

The last time that I check, insanity has to be proven. I didn't state any order,,simply saying he may or may not be found guilty of a hate crime, depending upon his mental capacity There is a difference between being guilty of a hate crime and being legally accountable for a hate crime. An insane person can be guilty of a hate crime but not legally accountable for it because of the person's insanity. The OP of this thread pertains to an obvious case of an anti-white hate crime regardless of the mental condition of the perpetrator. |

so, a person can be guilty even if they are found
'not guilty' or 'not guilty by reason of insanity'... ,,,how novel an idea THAT is ,,obviously, there is a racial element that COULD make it a hate crime,, the justice system, I HAVE NO DOUBT, will sort it out and hold someone accountable in some way for the mans death |

Congress has defined a hate crime as a criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offenders bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.

Congress has defined a hate crime as a criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offenders bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation. That definition fits what I said. If the perpetrator attacked the victim because the victim was white, then the crime is a hate crime. |
