Do not find fault with the man who limps

or stumbles along the road.

Have you ever worn the shoes he wears,

or struggled beneath his load?


There may be a thorn inside his shoe,

though hidden away from view;

or the burden he bears, placed on your back

might cause you to stumble too.


Don’t scorn a man who’s down today

unless you’ve felt the blow,

that caused his fall or felt the shame

which only he may know.


You say you're strong but still the blows,

if dealt the same to you-

in a self same way, and the self same time,

might cause you to stagger too.


Do not condemn a man who sins

or pelt him with words of stone.

Unless you are sure– yeah, twice as sure

you have no sins of your own.


You know, perhaps, if the tempter’s voice

should whisper as soft to you,

as it did to him when he went astray,

might cause you to falter too.
