So weird that so many people put out a posting with heading: are there any decent guys / women here?
Their start topic often remains empty or has the same line.
The phrase "decent man/woman" is regularly used in postings as well.
It might help if you define what you understand a decent man/woman to be, as 'decent' doesn't hold the same meaning to everyone.
It's such a vague thing to say. And if you want a decent man/woman (whatever this may mean), why don't you put in the time and effort to specify? How do you expect to get this so called decent man/woman if you aren't clear about what it is you hope to find?

Do you want the perfect housewife / a hardworking man and provider? Or just someone reliable and honest? Someone who makes a commitment straight away? And so on and so forth.

Not me! Any indecent women out there? Hehe

Nowadays decency is more difficult to find than diamonds ... and some can acquire diamonds but they cannot buy decency

I think you bring up a good point as decency can mean so many different things to different people let alone different countries and different cultures, etc.

The more specific we can be in our profiles should help clarify what we are actually seeking.

When someone posts something like that it is an indication that they are highly judgmental and have met a number of people that they judged to be 'indecent" according to his personal standards.

Secondly, it points to a person with a negative attitude right off the bat.

Could be that they are saying that they don't expect perfect or spectacular and that they will settle for something decent?

But yeah, those threads are extremely tedious and I never bother to read them.

I don't think that decent and settling are the same....to me it would be setting to accept someone who was not decent lol

I was sort of joking. "Decent" just means good or not bad and in this country at least it can be used in a non-moral sense.

"He's a fairly decent pool player"

Anyway, it's like saying that something is acceptable and in the relevant context here it's about behaviour. Would you settle for someone that's going to treat you decently, or do you want more than that? Seems to me that a lot of women aren't happy enough if you are just decent , or dare I say it... nice to them?

OK yes, thanks. the context in the UK did not occur to me. I getcha .... I think a decent man is the beginning. if he isn;t nice to me, nothing else is happening either. so I see "decent" as a baseline, I guess. I'd be happy to provide the decent meal :)
