Due to the size and complexity of most modern jetliners, pilots have become more "system monitors" than goggles and scarf seat of the pants pilots. According to news reports the Korean pilots on the SF plane did finally realize something was wrong with the air speed but by that time it was too late. So somebody who was supposed to be "monitoring"
the system, wasn't. |

I guess that adds to my objection to flying.
First you have to be groped and searched, and then you have to trust electronics and computer geeks to get you there. |

Unless you drive a model T or a something more than twenty years old, guess what controls your car, including the brakes and accelerator?
Computers programed by geeks. A geek by the way was originally the guy in the circus side show that did things like bite the heads off chickens, usually some drunk they paid off in booze. There is a pretty good old movie called "Nightmare Alley" in which a "Geek" figures prominently. |

But my point is, the so called pilots couldn't fly a plane without their electronics. I'm wondering why we even need pilots. Eventually the planes will all be remotely controlled... no pilots at all. |

What ever. I don't think they should be totally dependent on them. I think the pilots should know how to fly instead of just looking at instruments. |

Eventually ships at sea won't need crews, and cars won't need drivers.
All thanks to "geeks" who stopped biting the heads off chickens and turned to computer programing. Won't the world be grand then? |
