So... i was contacted by a person who seemed legit,,,was pleasant to talk with and that i opened my heart to...exchanged several long emails telling about myself over the course of a week or so.

Then it came....please send 500$ by western union to some place in Nairobi,Kenya.

If you look at my profile you can tell im an open person that wears his heart on his sleeve....

Would it be too much to ask anyone who contacts me to go on webcam? i dont mean right away but if more than a few emails are exchanged and things are going well, would it not be ok for me to ask this?....it would at least let me know that im talking to the person who is represented in a profile.

Or alter my profile so im not giving too much of myself out too fast?

no...i didnt send 500$ LOL!!

I think if the chick is legit, let her decide when to engage in that & you should know if you dig each other after a few weeks. Also read the beginning of my profile. It's harsh but it keeps the scamscum away:tongue:

These kind of experiences with scammers is what's jading our, (by that i meant those of us who live in other country) chances...a person would take one look and will say, probably a scammer..
If i want to meet someone on cam, i'd ask..and vice versa...
If you find a rotten one on top of the heap, keep digging, after all that's how treasures are found...this is my take on this.

nothing is wrong with making that request although I pretty much assume that men who make that request are perverts looking for a 'ho

just blcok and delete and never send money to anyone

Join date& amount of posts can be looked at too, but they could be a new member like yourself Varkee. You may have better luck kicking around the forums for a while and meeting someone "real" Jmo..

I'm very sorry that happened to you Varkee. Don't let it sour you. There are a lot of really great people here on Mingle. As previously suggested, the forums are a great place to just chat with legitimate folks.

Welcome

I had a couple of scammers hit me up on other sites... yeesh. As in, eeewww.

Thankfully, it hasn't happened to me here. At least not yet, although given the number of looks my profile seems to get from guys in Nigeria, I'm sure someone's bound to try at some point.

I have had a similar experience on another dating website, exchanged emails for nearly a month before the request for cash came. When none was sent they disappear. They are not only time wasters, they cause a lot of upset, telling you nothing but lies to obtain money. I would not hesitate in future to request a Skype call, when you explain the reason why and that it need be no longer than validate their authenticity, I am sure someone genuine would not refuse. Good luck in your search.
